I am disgusted in this property. I spent $208 AUS, booked on Expedia and then refused a room when I showed to the hotel because there was no room AND refused a refund.

Low Quality Hotel at High price

Lavanga claims to be a 4 Star hotel however that was not the case. I arrived at the hotel on 30 Dec and find that rooms I have requested months ago to accommodate 2 wheelchair people was not allocated. I spent 2 hours at check in trying to get rooms allocated. The manager asked me to "make do"with the rooms with stairs although he knew I had people bound to a wheelchair. The hotel itself is in poor condition. Untidy cement floors, old dirty furniture and carpets, broken glass and dirty windows. My toilet blocked up everyday until I checked out. It seems like the gym has not been used for decades with all equipment rusted. Cutlery was extremely dirty. I had to wipe everything before I used it. The staff I found to be arrogant and unfriendly and the guys at the reception counter seemed confused all the time. I am definitely not visiting here again. This hotel was a trap and I feel I paid too much for a Hostel type experience.

The hotel is in a great location on the beach but it old and very tired. Lots of staff but not doing much, nothing seemed to work as it should. It cost me $150 a night which was very over priced

Good stay

Good choice at the end although they tried to offer me a room without a balcony even though I paid for one. Also they tried to put my friends in rooms without a window. At the end the gave us better options and overall stay was good. Ruined it all on the last day when they accused my friend of drinking from mini bar although he is a devout muslim. Location is good and pool and beach area is ok for the budget.

Nice rooms but very noisy

Very nice room but very very noisy from both the road outside and the building work that was going on. The restaurant was very disappointing as it was inside where as most of the hotels up the road had beach front dining.

The staff are what makes this hotel great!

Had a fantastic time at this hotel. The staff were wonderful and we left feeling like we had known them for years. There may be better hotels in Sri Lanka, but I won't know about them because I w ill always go back to Lavanga!

Sea view or forget about it.

Non sea view room is on the highway. Lots of noise at night. Room is basic with poor finishing. We upgraded to sea view which was a significant improvement. However, bathroom flooded when sink was pulled. Friendly staff. Avoid in hotel restaurant. Affordable better food is a short tuktuk drive away. Great pool and beach.

Nice room but did not enjoy my stay

Pros: Comfortable room
Cons: The food was expensive and hardly ediblle The staffs English needs to improve when dealing with tousists
Location: Isolated there are much better locations and beaches . Try Unawatuna
I did not enjoy my stay at this hotel . The room was very nice . The hotel is too isolated and as the food was expensive and not very nice compared to other places meant I had to travel to eat . The atmosphere was not good staff hovering over you all the time . Their spoken English was not good compared to the 6 other countries I have just visited. I am not fussy as I am now in a 3 star hotel at another beach and am very happy . Just something about the atmosphere there made me hate it. If I just want to travel for a nice room may as well stay closer to home and save money. If you want to stay in Hikkaduwa stay closer to the town centre
