A resort with stunning view

Posted 21 Jun 2019 on Hotels
A hotel with great view, helpful staff. The only downside is the road to the resort. If that will be fixed, will be a super place to stay.

Very welcoming hotel with excellent food. I marked it down on local area because it is very remote. Spectacular views.

Despite the rain

Great family style service. Owners wife spoke English and all our needs met. She gave us personalize service and hooked us up with reliable taxi cab drivers who gave us local tours without additional expense for several stops along the way. Hotel and hired services were very accommodating.

Our Experience

Posted 9 Jun 2017 on Hotels
There was no river view from the room. Instead, the view was only available from a private outlook. The man in charge was helpful. He provided guidance, advice, and flash light to be used if one wanted to go to town. The town was far about 30 minutes walk from the hotel. Prices were 30% higher in town due to tourism activity. The Li river bamboo boat ride was worth the trouble.

Most Helpful Staff We Met in China

Posted 1 Oct 2016
Stunning Views if you have a Mountain View Room (recommend balcony). The staff, especially Grace, were incredibly helpful and spoke great English. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they booked buses, taxis to pick us up from the cruise, dawn photography trips etc. The negatives are that it is a bit far out from main Yangshuo. You will need to walk about 20 minutes and take a few minutes 10p ferry across the river, or take a taxi. The trade off are the views you get from this location. If you don't mind a bit of a journey into Yangshuo this is fine. You can hire bikes, tandems, mopeds etc in Yansghuo to explore the beautiful region. There is a LOT of construction going on in and around Yangshuo and I think in a few years this place will have loads more amenities for tourists (as Guilin already has). Food at the hotel wan't great, but then if you're out and about (which you are likely to be) then no need to eat there.

A great resort a ways from town

Posted 16 Apr 2016 on Hotels
Great views from the suites, but very far from town. Expect to spend 75/day on cabs at minimum. Very helpful and attentive staff, helpful booking tours and such.

Quiet retreat from the city with a great view

Posted 23 May 2015
The hotel is a little ways out of the city but totally worth it. The view from our room was amazing and provided a nice retreat on our vacation. The hotel staff was also very accommodating. If you want to go into the city, it's very easy and only costs about 30-50 RMB via taxi. The food at the hotel was also delicious and very reasonably priced.

A Perfect Place To Relax

Posted 30 Oct 2014 on Hotels
I wanted a place to relax after visiting the big cities in China and found the perfect place at Yangshuo Dongling Resort. The view of the mountains and city were great! This hotel is a bit out of the city, though we walked into town each day to see sights and took a taxi back to the hotel a couple of times, but walked back also. The staff was very nice and willing to joke around with a good sense of humor. They helped arrange any activities we wanted and gave us information to help us get around town. The food was home cooked and very tasty. This is the place to stay!

Disappointing Experience- Made to feel unwelcome

Posted 30 Aug 2014
Pros: -Nice hillside views -Might be an okay resort for people on a cycling tour or backpackers with own transport, but otherwise best left alone
Cons: -Friendliness/ helpfulness of service -Needs a pool -Needs western TV -Rooms need cupboards and comfortable beds
Location: Long way from town and local amenities- nothing nearby unless you have your own transport Taxi to town is cheap but getting back again v. expensive.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with extreme indifference (bordering on rudeness) by the young man on reception. He was unable to answer any of our questions about local amenities or excursions- both to our surprise and to the obvious dismay of another tourist observer in the reception area at the same time. In response to one of my questions, he suggested that I should come back to reception in one hour's time and pose the same question to the next person on duty! We were then shown to our room. Despite clearly paying for a room with a view we were shown to a room overlooking a courtyard of the staff quarters, with no view and no privacy. We asked why we could not be taken to a room with a view (as we had paid for) and were told that "maybe tomorrow you can change rooms, perhaps." In other words- "don't bother me with your irritating requests until I'm no longer on duty." My wife (not one for giving up) went to complain to the management and eventually we got moved a short while after, albeit with no apology (NB we should have had a room with a view in the first place). The management's only concern was to be certain that we had not "messed up" our first room. To be fair both the rooms that we experienced were clean and light. However, we then had difficulty with the air conditioning unit. Added to that the bed was rock solid uncomfortable and there were no cupboards for us to unpack our belongings. Also, the TV is only Chinese. So we checked out the next day.

Nice getaway, ok hotel

Posted 28 May 2014 on Hotels
The area is very secluded which is a nice break from Yangshuo. I thought Yangshuo was supposed to be quiet and peaceful but the town center (West Street) is anything but peaceful. We were glad we chose to stay at this retreat as our favorite part of the trip was just hanging out on the terrace of our room and enjoying the views. We had a bit of a mix-up with the rooms in the beginning and it is somewhat difficult to communicate, however the owner and staff try to do their best. This place is certainly not luxury, but is a nice semi-rustic getaway for relaxing.
