Disappointing but could be easily improved

Posted 16 Feb 2020 on Hotels
Positives: good vibes (but not from all staff), decent food (if based off fresh one made for my wife not my reheated one), location, clean Negatives: not sure if superior room is worth it, service kind of rude (and not welcoming), after care poor (harassment by telephone as their book keeping was very poorly organised), forced to make dinner plans upon check in

Cozy, Comfortable, and Quiet

Posted 31 Mar 2019 on Hotels
Hotel Tante Arlette is nestled in the beautiful fishing village of Grand Riviera. The town itself is beautiful, quiet, and filled with friendly locals happy to help and share their stories. The hotel is located over the restaurant with small but cozy rooms and great outdoor spaces such as open living room and rooftop sun deck with Jacuzzi. The restaurant itself is delicious and highly recommended for both breakfast and dinner. Employees speak very little english so having some knowledge of french is certainly useful. Nearby (within walking distance) are the beautiful black sand beaches which are extremely quiet, amazing hiking, and waterside dining.

not for everyone: twisty winding narrow road thru the rainforest to get there, no beach, very little English-speaking, small rooms in a quaint old house-building, this is for lovers of going off the beaten track.

Hello, Our establishment offers the opportunity to discover the North Atlantic of Martinique. The road is indeed winding and you arrive directly in the authentic heart of the town of Grand-Rivière. Between land (La Montagne Pelée) and sea (Plage Sinaï), travelers who linger in our town are delighted with their visit. Looking forward to welcoming you during your next stay.

Quiet stay and very friendly

Posted 28 Feb 2019 on Hotels
We enjoyed staying at Tante Arlette. Our room was clean and well appointed. We enjoyed breakfast in the hotels restaurant and also ate dinner there. They were very accommodating to our request for vegetarian meals. Very friendly if a bit distracted service. The area is very mellow and scenic. Probably our favorite part of our trip to Martinique

After a moment's anxiety about beds, sorted at once by the excellent staff, we had a wonderful stay in this lovely village at the end of everything.

A lovely auberge, beautifully appointed, clean and well maintained. Very friendly, helpful staff & delicious dinner & breakfast. Definitely to be recommended if you are visiting Grande Rivière. Unfortunately, when we were there the whole town was without water but the staff worked hard to provide guests with large flagons of bottled water and buckets of water for washing/flushing loos etc. Would definitely stay there again - with or without water!

Pros: Friendly staff, can't stop raving about them. Full size showers with doors! Free, solid Wi-Fi connection. Food.Rooftop Jacuzzi.
Cons: If more English was spoken or at least signs in English. If you don't speak any French it might be difficult to communicate. Otherwise, its great!
Location: Be prepared to drive on narrow, dark and curvy roads that lead to the town. Plenty of hiking & beautiful scenery. No nearby beaches though.
The hotel is 1.5hr- 2hrs way from the airport and the drive is through and around mountains. We arrived late in the evening and Karin was there to greet us and whip up a quick delicious salad for us. The hotel is small and cozy. Not all of the staff spoke fluent English but all very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is in a narrow street in a quiet town full of character in the lush green mountainside of Grand Riviere. The views are absolutely breathtaking. There are plenty of hiking trails and distilleries on this part of the island. The black sand beaches are in this part of the island as well. The food was delicious and the staff overall made sure to feel everyone welcome and comfortable. I would stay again the next time I visit the island.
