Lovely hotel let down by very unfriendly staff
Posted 22 Jul 2023 on HotelsThe hotel room was amazing, I would absolutely recommend it.
The only minor niggle was that there was no lock or indeed catch on the bathroom door. Obviously not a problem for couples, but more difficult for families or friends.
However, I have never been made to feel so unwelcome at a hotel in my life.
Let me be clear, I don't expect staff to speak fluent English, we have an obligation to try with the local language. To give some background to this, I have GCSE grade A French, although I'm a little rusty and I'd just come from Germany so was struggling with the change in languages.
HOWEVER, there are a small number of the French and German speaking population who have a really bad attitude to those who aren't completely fluent in their language (even those who try) and this was our experience that this hotel.
The main culprit was (and I don't mean to be insulting, just to point out who to look out for) a short wide young lady. All staff (who to be fair were trying their best) couldn't do anything without referring to her, and she had the worst attitude problem that I've ever encountered.
To give you an example, I checked in completely in French, but when I didn't understand "Identity card" rather than passport she became extremely hostile and angry. She clearly understood English well, but was too rude to help.
Unfortunately when we used the restaurant it turned out that she was in charge of this as well, so we got the same rudeness.
.. Shame as it's a lovely hotel

I was put off by the cleaning supplies laid about at the top of the stairs throughout the stay, the fan in the shower spitting dust at us when turned on (it was completely covered in dust), and the maid sitting and waiting for us right outside our door on the floor for us to checkout. The toilet is in a very small closet and breakfast was a bit lackluster as well.
I think since Durbuy is a very touristy place they can get away with it since the rooms will fill anyways. It wasn't terrible by any means, but it could have been much better with very little work. It's a beautiful location that I would return to, but perhaps I would try another hotel. It has a steakhouse that I did not try so I cannot rate it.

Very quaint location and the hotel was fitting as well. Service was friendly. Breakfast was your typical European options with meats, cheeses, cereal and juices/coffee. Not much else around as far as cafes so may be worth the added purchase. Parking was less than a block away, free between 6p-10a so if your driving around for the day this is perfect. Overall, if your staying in Durbury this is a great hotel option.
About the town itself, closes pretty early (6-8ish) so the quaint town is very much for some R&R. Not much to do or see besides walk around the few streets they have. Consider a day trip to Luxembourg City as it was fabulous!!!

Excellent hotel in the centre of Sheffield
Posted 27 Feb 2018Really enjoyed the overnight stay here. It’s history as a former college added a bit of interest too.

Quaint and comfortable inn
Posted 16 Oct 2015 on HotelsThe dinner was amazing, and the staff were wonderfully accommodating to our needs. Very friendly and well located place. Don't drive to the hotel, park before the bridge, as the streets are incredibly narrow and parking is by the hour.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful part of the word, the only improvement for overseas guests from English speaking countries would be english translations on the menus, spent most of every night looking up French phrases. people may say we should learn new languages but, we have spent most of our previous holidays in Spanish speaking countries and have picked up enough to get along.
Also confusion on breakfast didn't have the option to select this when booking so didn't realise util the last night that this was available at a sister hotel, this was probabilly my own fault for not reading a one liner in the middle of French instructions, I never read the rest !!
