"The property is small with only 9 rooms so it is very intimate and private. The service is excellent and the rooms are clean, big enough. The only concern is no AC so if the weather is hot, this might be an issue. It was warm when we were there but we were fine. There is a recessed fan but ceiling fans would be great (and an easy addition!) "

"The only thing i did not like was there was no A/C in the room i stood in nor was there a screen to keep out bugs if i opened the window for fresh air at night. But with that being said the people on the property where very helpful, kind and the food was great and prices were good. its a very personal type of place to stay no big crowds and central to many things to do i would highly recommend staying as well as staying here again if i ever go back to Antigua."

We had early tour days and they made sure to pack us a little to go lunch bag! We were lucky enough to be greated by such a welcoming front desk! "I needed a good last minute place in the area to stay with my family and found this gem on Expedia. Once I arrived I was surprised at how great everything was. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left I was happy. I booked one night and following morning we decided to stay a second night and continue enjoying the pool and beachside perks. "El Carmen was centrally located and the staff were very helpful and responsive (in person and via WhatsApp) which enabled a smooth check-in/check-out and arranging a transfer to the airport. Our stay came with a free breakfast which was really convenient. The property and room were clean, air conditioned (with an in room mini-split), renovated, and had filtered water available. The standard king size room was small but perfect for my 1 night stay."

"The service at this hotel is unparalleled! I have never received better customer service in any other hotel in my life! They really go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible! This hotel is first class. The hotel is beautiful and very clean! The staff is extremely friendly and courteous! Upon check in I mentioned to my partner that I was hungry after the days travel. While showering in our room, we heard a knock at the door. My partner answered it and the lady said she heard we were hungry, so she brought us a fruit plate to hold us off until we got dinner... 5 stars service! We did have a problem with our air conditioning on our last day, however they made every attempt to fix the issue. Unfortunately it was not able to be fixed during our stay. They did however upgrade us to the premium level which was very nice of them! I will only stay at Barcelo when I am in Guatemala City from now on! Great job!"
