I paid for this hotel online and the money got withdrawn from my bank. When I got to the property they said I didn't pay and had to pay again.

My wife, mother and I arrived at 2pm. The clerks claimed to have cancelled my reservation at 12:30pm that day. My reservation still showed up on Expedia's app. They told my wife that they were not accepting foreigners into their hotel. They did not offer to help us find another room (it's the beginning of the high season, making it difficult for us to find another hotel). Do not book here if you're not Chinese.

Fantastic location, extremely helpful staff

Posted 23 Mar 2015
Pros: Close proximity to NK and the view (River view room)
Cons: The hard beds - but you expect that in China - stop complaining snobby foreign travellers
Fantastic location. Only 10 min walk from the train station - walk out of station and turn left, follow to river then turn left, easy!) Staff only speak Chinese - concierge was exceptional, warned me about current scams on the streets, and put me in touch with someone that organised a speed boat trip into NK (even though borders are currently closed due to Ebola). Dandong is a special city, extremely friendly people (like Beijing 10 years ago). If you can speak a little Chinese, this is a great city to relax in - not to mention the NK border - make sure you get someone to take you face to face with the actual border West of Dandong - amazing. Also be sure to check out HuaShan Great Wall - all taxi drivers know this place, right on the border and can see into NK, for people not willing to go all the way in :) The hotel is still comfortable if you don't speak Chinese, just communicate in simple language. Buffet breakfast is sufficient - even for vegetarians.

A good base to explore Dandong

Book a river view room to get great views of river, bridges and NK. Very little English spoken but then I don't speak any Chinese languages either! Managed to communicate with staff through international fallback system of smiling and gesturing. Breakfast was not great and dining room small for the number of people trying to get a table. Although decor is a bit dated and tired round the edges, the room was spacious, clean and beds comfortable. Didn't appreciate a call late one night asking if I 'wanted a massage'....in very good English, it has to be said. LOL. Would stay here again.

Posted 9 Dec 2018 on Hotels
