Lovely

Lovely. Considering the age of the property it was in great condition and very clean. The breakfast was excellent and the furnishings were charming.

Horrible Stay. Unprofessional host.

Posted 12 Dec 2022 on Hotels
I wouldn't stay here again...even if it was free. I'll just hit the major points, First...even though at the time of booking it was advertised as a bed and breakfast...and our booking stated breakfast included, we received nothing. Not even coffee! I texted the owner the night before about the details for breakfast. It took her 10 hours to respond, only to tell us they aren't serving breakfast and she'd be happy to recommend restaurants and coffee shops. Second...we were only staying one day. Since we weren't being served the advertised breakfast or coffee we decided to just pack up and leave. We went to take a shower and the hot water in the shower didn't work. I messaged the owner at 9:10 am. She messaged me back at 11:52 am. Mind you, check out was at 11:00 am and we had already left the property. So beside no breakfast and no coffee we also had no shower. We were staying at the cottage across the street. The owner may say texting is not her preferred method of communication, but seriously..its 2022. We're across the street, not in the same building. If she can get a phone call she can get a text. On top of all this, the hot water and the lack of providing breakfast were all known issues to the owners. Just read the other bad reviews about it. You're now for-warned...and I'm not even telling you about the lack of cleanliness (for which we have pictures) or her insulting text messages (which are still on my phone). Can't wait for their snarky response

As I said initially, I am truly sorry that you could not work the shower. It was only after several very grumpy texts from you on a Sunday afternoon that I responded in what was probably a less-than-gracious manner, by saying to you that the shower handle is not rocket science. I always prefer to speak in person over texts. I believe that's how people were meant to communicate. We have completed some beautiful renovations and are serving a great, full breakfast once again. For a while, we didn't because of renovations. I'm sorry you weren't able to enjoy it. And yes, there are some less than favorable reviews because we needed to renovate. But it's all been addressed now and we are happy to offer what we believe is quite a lovely experience. Because of that, there are also great, recent reviews. We wish you and yours a Merry Christmas.

The RPH Inn was a great and comfortable stay. Mamie Pound was amazingly friendly and responsive. Daily breakfast and wine in the evening was provided. Highly recommend. Will stay again.

Read the fine print. Must contact the hotel at least 24 hours in advance to make arrangements for check in. Have no idea why this property is available on Expedia for same day bookings. I made a reservation for same day check in and no one was at the property when we arrived. My phone calls went straight to VM. I received a call from the property 2 days later. Fortunately we were able to make reservations at a different nearby hotel otherwise we would have been stranded.

Was a very nice Victorian style unit. I did not get the room that I booked. Needed to ask for toilet paper as only a small amount was on the roll. I did find a cob web on the headboard. Overall was a nice stay however I thought It was a bread n breakfast and it wasn’t

Attractive Victorian house but they did not know we were coming. Two hour delay in check in. We were shown our lovely room and that was all we saw of our “host”. No internet password if we needed something there was no one to contact. No access to the public space, no morning coffee and NO BREAKFAST at a true bed and breakfast. In the morning we just left our room with no contact with anyone Not sure why I spent the extra money to stay here I feel ripped off

According to our listing here on Expedia, you are to call a day ahead and arrange to gain entry. Had you done that, you wouldn't have had to wait. We are sorry you were unaware that we are under renovations, as we explained. We aren't serving breakfast. Your rate did reflect that.

I was surprised by all the negative reviews; I suspect part of it is that many people don't know what to expect from 19th-century houses in the South. The truth is, they will never be perfect—unless you have an endless reserve of money to dedicate to upkeep, and who does? I'd characterize this place as delightfully quirky. The neighborhood is scenic and historic, quiet, and seems quite safe. All or part of the main house is closed for renovations, so I was in one of the cottages next door, accessible via a path behind the house. My room was to the left, and another was directly across from me. There was also a small patio table on the deck outside where I sat and read one day during the rare pleasant Alabama weather (before it gets unbearably hot). The staff was helpful and friendly, and the owner always responded to messages. If sometimes it took a little long to actually get what I'd asked for, I'm fairly certain it's because they're short-staffed like everyone else in hospitality right now. I had no trouble checking in. The owner never did text me instructions, but she was on site when I arrived so there was really no need. Since it says toiletries are provided, I didn't pack any myself and there weren't any in the room when I got there. But I texted her, and she brought me what I needed even though it was 9 or 9:30 by then. In any case, I enjoyed my stay, and I hope I can go back and see it once the renovations are finished.
