Ultimate Perfection

Posted 27 Oct 2022 on Hotels
We stayed at 21 Nettleton at the start of our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. PERFECT! The hotel itself is a mansion on the hill top with only 6 rooms, so you get ultimate privacy, attention to detail and peace. The staff are all fantastic, on hand for any little thing you need and nothing is too much trouble for them. The pool is lovely, with a small jumping ledge, if you like that sort of thing (I do!). Breakfast is a feast and the sundowners canapes are a wonderful addition. We also opted to have dinner one night, which you can arrange in advance, and it was absolutely worth every penny - they will basically cook whatever you want and we asked for a dinner centred around grilled crayfish. It was amazing. I review almost all of my stays, because I find them useful. And I have never found a place that truly deserves a 10/10, but 21 Nettleton definitely does. We will be returning and recommending it to everyone!

Exclusive mountainside bolthole, flawless service

Posted 7 May 2019 on Hotels
21 Nettleton is one of the most amazing places we have stayed. The property is beautiful; set high up on the hillside of Lion's Head in Clifton with uninterrupted views of the ocean. The location is a great base for Cape Town sightseeing, if you can bring yourself to leave! We stayed in the King Room which was ornately decorated with gorgeous antiques and objets d'art collected by the owner. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed having breakfast on the private balcony looking out over the ocean. Come late afternoon, we found ourselves ensconced in the living room so, although there are many good dining options nearby, we opted to have a night in with dinner cooked by the house chef - both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The service was impeccable. The staff valued our privacy and left us to our own devices but they were always available if we needed something (and reachable by sending a quick message through the iPad provided). The result was that we felt perfectly at home at 21 Nettleton. Adding to this was the fact there was only one other (seldom-seen) couple in residence. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. This hotel is excellent value and far exceeded our expectations (which were set high having read all the amazing reviews). We will most definitely stay again.

An extraordinary place and experience

Posted 14 Feb 2019 on Hotels
I don't ever leave reviews unless my experience was extreme in either way. In the case of 21 Nettleton, it's one of my most memorable stays ever, and I travel around the world extensively. In every place I go, I always find something to love, but I don't get blown away that easily these days. 21 Nettleton did. It's not a hotel. It's an exclusive, private, and breathtakingly beautiful personal property that comes with your personal chefs and staffs who serve you with their whole heart and talk to you like your great long time friends. Because it only has 6 rooms so my 3 nights there felt like I had the entire property for my own. Thinking back those quiet breakfasts sitting in the garden overlooking the mountains and ocean, while the birds chirping happily as you read through your favourite book in the gentle breeze... it really makes my heart smile. Can't wait to find the next opportunity to return.

Simply Outstanding!

Posted 6 Nov 2017 on Hotels
Our stay at this hotel was simply outstanding. The hotel is a converted mansion on the famous Nettleton Road in Cape Town. Nettleton Road is probably the most expensive/exclusive road in the whole of Africa, certainly in South Africa anyway. As a local Capetonian returning to South Africa for a holiday, I spotted 21 Nettleton on Hotels.com and saw the opportunity to stay on a street I've always dreamt of. The hotel consists of only 6 bedrooms (which is a good thing). All of the rooms, except the lions head room, have the most incredible sea views you can imagine. Each of the bedrooms are very generously sized for a hotel (another benefit of being a converted mansion), and are decorated and dressed with the most exquisite linens and furnishings. No detail is forgotten. We were lucky enough to stay here whilst there were no other guests, so it felt like we had this beautiful mansion all to ourselves. The staff were incredibly attentive, and struck the perfect balance of being constantly available when you needed them, but not too much that you felt intruded upon. Incredibly friendly at all times. I've stayed in a my fair share of other top end hotels, and the staff can be arrogant and snooty. This is not the case here. The staff were professional and friendly, and really made you feel as though the space was your own home. My only problem with staying in this hotel is, where does one go from here? Very difficult to beat...
