Authentic Block Island Inn. Perfect location, just an FYI--shared bathrooms, byob ur shampoo! I would stay again!

Charming Victorian hotel with great service!
Posted 13 Aug 2019 on HotelsIf you want a charming Victorian hotel with great service, this is it! Family owned and run, Gothic Inn staff take you in like family. Every room is different and has it's own character. If you have trouble with stairs, stay downstairs because there is a good flight of steps to access the third floor. Third floor rooms have beautiful views of the ocean. Unless you are in the suite of apartments you will share a bathroom with others. And yes! There are no TV's in the bedrooms, but there is so much to do on Block Island, who wants to watch TV? For those who must, there a TV and 2 sofas in the breakfast room. This is a Victorian Hotel, after all! Breakfast is delicious and filling and the hotel is immaculate. No air conditioning but between the ceiling fan and ocean breeze, we were very comfortable.
The hotel provides beach towels and on checkout day they kept our bags until we left for our ferry in the evening. Loved it and have already booked for next year.

The good: Great location, good breakfast. The bad: No one was there to welcome us and show us to our room, or at any time during our stay. But the Main problem was the price for the value: tiny room with no air and no private bathroom for an exorbitant Basically the price of a high-end for the quality of a youth But it’s Block Island: everything is outrageously expensive there.

I am sorry that no one was here to greet you when you arrived. Check in time is 3 PM. The staff stays until 4 or 5. They then call a guest that has not checked in yet to tell them what room they are in and that the key to their room is in the room door and that they will check them in in the morning..I do not know why you were not reached.
I am also sorry if you did not know that the building was built approx. 1870 as a private home. It does not have large rooms ( except the master bedroom ) but represents what was considered a upscale home on Block Island at that time. It has 9 guest rooms and 3 full bathrooms. It was built for a sea captain.
In spite of our short comings, I hope you will stay with us again in the future.
