"Wonderful stay at this ryokan onsen hotel overlooking the ocean. Thoroughly enjoyed watching sunrise, while soaking in our private onsen bath from the balcony of our room."
"I have stayed in 12 hotels on this trip, and this is the friendliest, with the kindest staff. I needed an extra pillow and they brought it to my room within a few minutes, they got me a taxi for my bus out of town, they had better then usual English understanding and treated me very well. The property is a little old, and I noticed the other guests were mostly older people (I’m 44, most the others were over 60) so it is not a hotel for having a party, but for a high quality nights sleep, I...
"Private indoor and outdoor onsen in room with friendly staff. Driving is recommended since no dining option and restaurants in walkable distance. Overall, highly recommended place to stay for the onsen experience "

While there might not be top attractions in Kamegawa, you can explore the larger area and discover places like Oita Fragrance Museum and Hyotan Hot Spring.
Take an exciting ride on Japan’s first wooden roller coaster and other traditional fairground rides at a theme park set in the foothills of Mount Tsurumi.
Five of the hot springs are clustered together within a five minute walk of each other. A bus ride to the hot springs is easy to navigate plus the bus drivers are extra kind to tourists. Beppu offers lots of dining with a wide variety of flavors.

Great place to bathe, see the different hot springs and enjoy nature. I recommend hiking in the area. A sad thing is though that there are several brothels, I find it sad that some women have circumstances that force them to work there.

Beppu is way more than just the Hells ~ the onsens are amazing in town, and it's an interesting seaside city worth visiting. Oita City is nearby too.

I came to Beppu from the US. I know it's not a typical tourist destination for US travelers but I found the city to be very charming and the people were very kind and welcoming. I recommend this city to travelers from the US and other countries.

Highly recommend Beppu. We had a nice experience and really enjoyed exploring the city.
"The hotel was great and had your own parking, but not walking distance from anything; however very close driving distance to tourist spots. Location of the hotel is right next to the expressway entrance to either go to Oita or Yufuin, your like in the middle. Overall excellent hotel!! "
"Everything was amazing, from the staff service to the food and the view was gorgeous.
Food: The menu changes everyday so we were able to enjoy various kinds of deliciousness. You can select your preferred timing for dinner and breakfast.
Room: Staff has already prepared hot water, tea packets and mini snacks for you to enjoy. While you are out for dinner in the communal area, staff will prepare your futon while you are away.
Toilet: The tub and washlet is separated. Water for the tub is hot spring water, not the normal kind so you can enjoy it in your room if being naked with strangers isn't up your alley.
Parking: Plenty of slots available."
"This was our first visit to beppu and first stay at this location. At first glance it looks older, but the staff met us halfway as we walked from the bus stop. This was the only hotel that did that and highlighted the start of a great stay with great service. They took us all the way to the front desk and provided us great service to the room. We chose a private open air Onsen and traditional setting, which they fixed our rooms each day. We could see the ocean on one side and mountain (for fire festival) on the other. Great location to everything and would definitely stay again. "
One of the city's most popular neighborhoods is Kamegawa.
