Staying at the Hotel Marie Celeste

Posted 13 Nov 2018 on Hotels
I arrived at 7.30 pm after a long drive from the South of France to find the hotel locked up with nobody there at all. The bar and restaurant were both closed as well. There was a handwritten note on the door giving a telephone number. I phoned and was told that there was a side door and I was given a digicode to gain entry and a room number for me. The room had a key in the door and I was the sole occupant of the hotel. The room was a good size and felt warm. On closer inspection, the room was rather dirty with cobwebs in all corners of the room and bathroom. The decor was shabby and the bed coverlet was stained. I was apprehensive about looking underneath the cover, but the sheets were clean cotton and the bed though soft was comfortable. Having looked around the village and finding nowhere open to get anything to eat, I retired to my room at 9.00pm and thought I would watch a bit of TV before going to bed. Unfortunately, the TV did not work as it was not receiving a signal. There were no instructions to help me to get it going, so I went to bed. I slept well showered in the dingy bathroom and left to go to Calais for my ferry to the UK. I often do this overnight stop on my way to and fro France and like to use different hotels every time. I have never stayed here before and will not stay again.

Disappointed with damp towel in room; replacement had holes in it! Room adequate. Wifi good.

Smart but...

Posted 1 Nov 2017
Pros: The bar/café and restaurant rooms were quite delightful and the food was really good. Service was fantastic too, couldn't beat it.
Cons: Rooms need coffee/tea facilities to be added. The showers (rooms 5 & 6) need replacing, the one in room 6 was the wrong shape to get access / egress.
Location: Location was easy to find and the market was opposite the hotel on Thursday.
The Hotel has been smartened up and is in good general condition. The staff are great and very friendly and keen to please. I had an issue with a shower in my room and was moved into a double with no issue. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The shower facilities could do with being changed back to how they would have been prior to the refit, however, they were clean.

Rather noisy at night

Posted 17 Jul 2017 on Hotels
Very friendly hotel, more than adequate room and facilities for the price in a nice village. Nearby supermarket and other restaurant. Only drawbacks were intermittent WiFi and a noisy unit at the back switching on and off with sleep disturbing regularity although a few glasses of wine helped with that ultimately

Good Family run small hotel.

Posted 4 Jul 2017
Pros: Its location, atmosphere, helpful staff, the bar enjoyed by the locals and guests alike.
Cons: Its just a good family run hotel providing value for money
Location: Centre of the village opposite the church and market square bars restaurants parks brewery bakery.
This is an ideal hotel to experience a small family hotel in a truly French setting. The hotel rooms are basic but it is spotlessly clean and great value for money. I recently stayed here with my daughter and the staff and the local clientele in the bar could not have been more hospitable we thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere and the service is the great French experience always adequate and unpretentious. It is a quite village but one to explore and find the hidden interests like other small bars, brewery, shops and beautiful riverside parkland.....need some French to enjoy it as much as we did.

Poor room.

We did not stay at this Hotel as the room was awful. The toilet's flush mechanism was broken, the bathroom was tatty. The bed was rickety and collapsed when my wife sat on it. The bar and restaurant looked ok but sadly we never got to use it. We did try to get on the wifi, to look for another hotel. But the wifi password was bizarrely 28 assorted characters long and after 2 attempts it failed to give access. I know it was cheap at 59 euros, but even at that price it was sadly lacking.

Overnight in Le Val de Canche

Posted 24 May 2017 on Hotels
The owner was very helpful. The bedroom was disappointing, dated and in need of decoration, refreshing and new bedding. We couldn't eat in hotel in the evening as they close Monday evenings but restaurant looked very nice. Breakfast in there was delicious. Lovely fresh baguette, croissants and coffee/chocolate. Parking availability good. Had a fantastic meal at La Scala, a lovely Pizzeria along the road. Very quiet village, nothing to do there but local area is lovely and people were very friendly.
