I've been many times, and it's a lovely village. Close to the countryside for walks too. The only negative is the amount of traffic coming through the middle of the town (including a lot of lorries).

Compact town that probably doesn't need a 2 night stay to see everything on offer but would be a good base for exploring further

Parking can be a problem but if you buy a Rover Parking Permit (online) you can park in several car parks for 3 or 7 days at a very reasonable price.

Bakewell is a few miles away. It gets very busy, especially at week-ends and in tourist season. The Bakewell Showgoround (ABC, Agricultural Business Centre) is where I parked - a bit cheaper and less chaotic than the town proper and only a short walk

Lovely walks around Baslow and Chatsworth. Bakewell was busy as it was market day. Beautiful area and the Devonshire is in a great spot.

Bakewell is a very busy little town but Youlgrave where we stayed is a much quieter village.
