The internet did not work. While the property listed that rooms had their own safe the room did not have one. My room was a very long walk away from reception. The mosquito net does not cover the bed. Hot water is not available at all times and only seems to be switched on in the morning. While there is a Visa card machine, I was told it does not work. The room was very clean and the restaurant offers a variety of options.

The lodge is in a beautiful setting, the rooms were clean and with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The staff are friendly and helpful. The local area is not particularly good, but a short tuk-tuk ride will take you into central Bahir Dar.

I do NOT recommend this hotel. This was by far the most expensive lodging that I booked during my recent week-long visit to Ethiopia. The room was mediocre, pretty, but - no towels, collapsed mattress. Terrible to weak to intermittent to non-existent wifi. The food in the restaurant was also just average. The worst, however, was the drivers outside the gate. Beware! Hailu was exorbitantly over-priced. Aftoom is a cheat and a thief. The hotel management bears responsibility because these cheats and grifters are allowed on the property, meet guests in the lobby and are recommended by management. Hotel management should vet, approve, and authorize the drivers and protect the guests.

The grounds were beautiful, the restaurant was decent (excellent breakfast and lunch, so-so dinner buffet), and the room in general was very nice. The staff bent over backwards to ensure our stay was great. The only issues we had were: 1.a waitress who was upset that we wanted to charge our lunch to our room (I think she was worried about losing her tip), and the fact that the bathroom smelled of sewage after we used the shower.

Nice quiet lodge

We stayed here one night. The clerk at the desk did not speak much English, but the bell boy spoke excellent English so there was no problem checking in. The room was large and clean. Great shower and good large towels. We asked for the ala carte menu in the restaurant and so avoided the buffet. We had checked the wine selection earlier and found it limited and expensive so we brought our own wine to dinner and they did not charge us a corkage fee. Breakfast was similar to breakfasts offered everywhere in Ethiopia, it was fine. We wanted to go into town for the afternoon and one of the bell boys took us in in a bajaj .

3 stars anywhere is 5 stars in Bahir Dar

As good as it gets in Bahir Dar, unfirtunetly. Difficult environment for tourism, but the lodge is an escape with some amenities.
