Decent hotel in the middle of the city

Posted 24 Feb 2020 on Hotels
My overall rating for Golden Pine Hotel is average. It does have its ups and downs. Location: GPH is located near the middle of the city making it easily accessible to many establishments, restaurants, fast food and parks. Burnham Park, McDonalds and Jollibee are within a few minutes by foot. Other restaurants are nearby as well. I would say the location is ideal as everything is within reach. Service: Service was decent at best. While nothing untoward happened, I felt there were some points of improvement with the overall service. Sometimes, the staff is not attentive to your needs. I remember asking for the bottled water that was complimentary for the room I booked and it took a while before they gave it to me and had to ask at least twice. Some amenities did not work: wi-fi, hair dryer, hot/cold water, etc. Condition: The hotel needs some reconditioning. Carpets are worn and dirty. Tiles on the ground floor lobby were missing. The rooms were decent though, but it is obvious that the furniture is rather outdated. Food: The food was good and the cafe does have a little bit of a selection of Western and Filipino dishes. My booking came with complimentary breakfast, although I found that the choices were poor. The buffet breakfast they had one day only consisted of two main meats (chicken adobo and fried fish), rice and scrambled eggs. There was not a lot of selection available. Overall, it is a decent hotel, but not worth what I paid for.

There is not much to like. No refrigerator in rooms, no safe in rooms, No pork served in dining area despite being all over menu. Management lying to visitors saying it's because of ASF but really they have a Muslim in the kitchen.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. We are scheduling to upgrade all rooms and have included putting mini refrigerators in all rooms. Currently, our suites have refrigerators. Safety boxes in rooms are also in the plans, meanwhile safety deposit boxes are available at the front desk. We do have pork available for other dishes however we ran out of bacon for breakfast which we are unable to purchase locally as of this time.

3 Nights in the City of Pines

The room was okay, but the tv remote was missing and it took them the next day to give. Then they clean the room, it smells like Clorox. They forgot to give us the towel, soap, etc. then we check out, they ask us to pay for the drinks we haven’t consume.

Pros: The early check in & pumpkin soup!
Cons: Lighting. Rooms (esp. bathroom) need updating. Water in shower was very hard to regulate.
Location: I had no time to get out, but apparently it's a great location.
Was blessed with being able to check in at 8 am, instead of 2 pm - after explaining I'd been awake all night on bus from Manila & am a Sr. Citizen. I thought food in their cafe was much better than I expected (2nd-best Pumpkin soup I've ever had.) Loved the large size of room & lovely Christmas decor....

Dear Mrs. Tan, thank you for the great review. We are happy to have been of service to you. Currently we are updating our bathrooms (removing some bath tubs and repainting the rest). We may be doing this until next year as we have to cut short the schedule due to reservations pouring in. We have also repainted some rooms already and changed lights to brighter ones. The hallway lights are much brighter too already. Thank you for your helpful feedback! We look forward to having you with us again.
