Great central, walkable location.
Reception staff was chilly and indifferent with respect to customer service….bordering on argumentative with respect to confirming a taxi for a pick up from the hotel.

I have stayed at the Merkur a number of times. It is well priced and quiet. Breakfast is excellent. Close to buses, the Christmas Market and public baths. I recommend to anyone looking for a central hotel in the town.

So, the hotel was unable to reserve / confirm my reservation for the weekend even though I received a reservation number from Expedia. The Hotel Merkur booked me a room at another hotel across town. So, I had to travel into the city center on foot with luggage. The hotel did not provide a map just the name of the other lodging establishment. There was no elevator in the other lodging accommodation, so I had to climb stairs to the three floor with luggage in tow. I suppose the only good outcome from the whole experience was I exercised all weekend climbing stairs with poor knees. I’ve stayed at other hotels in Baden Baden before and most have elevators to accommodate older guests. This was my first time booking a room at the Hotel Merkur. I think I will choose other accommodation in the future. Just because Expedia states your reservation is confirmed, the reality is one does not truly know until they arrive at the hotel.

Excellent location and well designed rooms. Wonderful staff, from check in/out to parking. Great breakfast buffet. Definitely my choice when we return to Baden
