Not worth the money
Posted 13 Jan 2020 on HotelsThe room was very dated and in need of refurbishment. Did not feel clean, especially the bathroom. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls. Floor very uneven. Breakfast was cooked fresh in the morning but it was very greasy.

Thank you for taking the trouble to post a review. We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. We are a Georgian property and, as with all old buildings, some of the floors are not as level as others. We have a refurbishment programme in hand but you make it sound as if great swathes of wallpaper are peeling, which is certainly not the case. The photographs on all the websites are accurate. Regarding breakfast, we use locally-sourced high quality ingredients and although we grill the bacon, sausage and tomatoes there inevitably will be some juice emanating from the meat. We fry the mushrooms and eggs in butter (not grease) which gives better flavour and despite using a slotted spoon there will be some juice/butter run-off. If you worry about fats then there is the choice of poached or scrambled eggs, poached haddock, kippers or a range of fruits, cereals, yoghourt and porridge to fill you up. In any case we are a family business so please speak to us and we always try our best to fulfill guests' wishes.

Excellent food

We do have an ongoing refurbishment plan in progress and, unlike large corporations, this has to be achieved over time. As you have chosen to remain anonymous I cannot comment specifically on your room, which possibly should be higher up our priority list.

Location was good as close to high street and church

The staff were helpful and friendly the dining room was decorated to a high standard and artefacts unique. Chef was friendly and superb cook.
