Alpena beach motel

Posted 13 Aug 2016
Great location near a good beach. Decent appliances, good tv and ceiling fan. BUT, needs serious upgrades! Very tired carpet, linoleum, cabinets. Kitchenette cabinets stuck shut. Overall, a gloomy room.

NEVER AGAIN

Posted 9 Aug 2016 on Hotels
My husband and I had the WORST experience, and we will never go back. After confirming our reservation the DAY BEFORE (we were assured if we made it there by 7 our room would be ready), the "manager" gave our room away to another couple. We didn't find out until we had drive 5.5 hours to get there. Oh, and there was NOTHING available at any other hotel around until we drove to Mackinaw City. So, being tired, hungry, and angry, we had to drive another 1.5 hours to find a place to stay. The "Manager" did offer to have us stay with him (no thank you) or stay with another person in the house nearby (H#@$ no thank you) or loan us a tent to camp (f%&# you). Worst experience ever, and I felt like we were in a bad National Lampoons Vacation movie. RUN AWAY

Affordable with beautiful view

Posted 8 Aug 2016
Pros: Staff
Cons: Cleaning
Location: Beautiful quiet town with lots to explore!
The hotel staff was very welcoming and friendly. I would have liked the room to be a little bit cleaner but you get what you pay for. Bed was very comfortable!

close to the beach

Posted 23 Jul 2016
Pros: The beach
Cons: Chairs to eat at the table and a coffee pot.
Location: We went to the Glass bottom boat ride which was very nice and to the museum, free and very nice as well. The boat trip was very informational.
It was a small clean room, no extras like chairs for the table or a coffee pot. Used the microwave and fridge. bathroom was nice, towels furnished, more when requested. beds were comfortable and room was clean. Beach was nice, fire pit and was beach was raked after a storm and nice for the kids to play on and in the water. No breakfast offered, just suggestions for places to go. Personally would not stay there again.

Relaxing atmosphere, just steps from the beach.

Pros: Unique in that the 'Little' and 'Big' houses were separate from the motel rooms themselves, offering private space for families or small groups.
Cons: The Wi-fi was not usable as it only reached the main body of the motel rooms. Should have a booster installed to reach all the rooms.
Location: Highly recommend visiting the NOAA museum, and wandering through town along the path to all the historical markers. Take the time to enjoy the town.
Booked the 'Little House' for a few days away with my two teenagers. Was a separate building, with king sized bed and pull out sofa, full kitchen and table to sit and eat, and bathtub with relaxing jets. Plenty of room for the three of us, would be great for a family if planning on staying for more than a night or two. Had a private beach entrance, with a fire pit available to the motel guests, that was at the end of the city public beach. Several other parks nearby, as well as playgrounds, accessible by sidewalk that winds along the shoreline. Was a beautiful area, friendly people everywhere we went, great food recommended by the motel staff at local restaurants. The town itself has wonderful history, with signs and historical markers along a designated path that winds thru town. Was very relaxing for all of us, definitely somewhere we will go back to.

The motel is in town right on the beach near a park. Rooms still need an update. Owner is friendly.

Water's Edge Motel

Posted 6 Jul 2016 on Hotels
Nothing fancy. The room had a small bathroom, full kitchen (although sparse with cooking supplies, etc. and was right on a beautiful beach. Bring beach chairs as there was only one that was not broken. Close to town but not really walking distance. Alpena has some good-great restaurants and very nice parks.

What Stay!!!!

Posted 4 Jul 2016 on Travelocity
Waited 2 hours in the parking lot for someone to show up and check us in, manager of motel left a not on locked office door to call his cell phone, when we called it went to voice mail. Same happened to another couple that waited with us, employee's of store next door tried to help by calling owner, he told them he would contact manager, owner or manager never showed. Lucky for us with the help of a friend we were able to get a room else where on the 4th of July weekend. The other couple got help from hotels.com, two other men showed up talked to us and left!
