I liked that the staff spoke English Spanish and Portuguese. We chose this property because we wanted to use the Spa. This feature is in their name. The Spa was closed during the time we were at the hotel. Very disappointing. :-(

Enjoyable stay

Posted 23 Jun 2018 on Hotels
Lovely and peaceful hotel, with excellent service. Very clean everywhere, linen and towels changed regularly, reception could not do enough for you. If there was a niggle it was that the food was not hot enough, and needed some gravy, but it was tasty. Very nice pool area and you didn't have to get up at dawn to get a sunbed.

Alcatraze not alcazar!

Posted 11 Oct 2015
Room was a broom cupboard on 8th floor staff would not change us. Old worn furniture and curtains circa 1980s! The spa looks beautiful in the photo and there is a reason for that! Guests have to pay 15 euros per per visit to use it plus 5 euros for a towel plus wear a rubber swimming cap!! The gym is pristine and empty like the spa, because on tip you have to pay 7.50 euros to use it!! Disgraceful! all hotels I have stayed in guests used the facilities as part of the stay. The outside pool nice but building work outside the area of the pool made it too noisy to relax. Was not told about this. The breakfast was ok some strange combination of English breakfast, eggs fried spam and sausages or burnt chorizo . I would not recommend this hotel it is situated next to a residential area of flats and old closed down hotel with smashed windows it is like a poor man's bebidorm!! Stay in Villimora much nicer place marina excellent.

Good hotel. There is nothing extraordinary about it, but everything is good. Comfortable, clean and good location.

Relaxing stay at the end of September. Great location, 5 minute walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. Wifi was better than your average hotel speed. Excellent facilities for just chilling out at the pool or bar. Would highly recommend. Also probably one of the best breakfast buffets i've ever come across, delicious!

Sheer relaxation

Posted 14 Oct 2012
Monte Gordo is perfect for those seeking a quiet relaxing holiday. The Alcazar is close to beach and town centre but no noise at night from bars or clubs. The hotel was full for the first weekend due to a national holiday. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the room comfortable and clean and the breakfasts excellent. A memorable week and we will be returning next year.

Wonderful holiday!

Really lovely people, and nice hotel. Very clean (just like the photos). Pool area lovely, with the additional great hammocks and swinging outdoor four-poster beds! Breakfast was decent (would have liked soya milk); beach is only 2 blocks away and very beautiful. Was blessed with great weather (28 degrees) in early October. Very safe as a solo female traveller. My only objection was the horrible musak which was playing 24/7 in the corridors and also in the pool area. However, when I registered my feelings about this, the manager offered to turn it off in the pool area (where I tended to hang out most of the day) for the duration of my stay! Blessed silence! Mainly frequented at this time of year by older travellers (over 50) from UK, Netherlands, Germany. Very friendly and low-key.

not reccommended

Posted 10 Jul 2010 on Hotels
we checked into hotel, did not like two box rooms we were allocated, so we got a suite...disappointed not to be able to make even a cup of coffee in room, only bathroom two bedrooms, one small, the other nice and big with balcony...view off balcony was of construction of another hotel, noise of construction was annoying. no room service for food. Breakfast was included in stay, and was awful. Not one person upon check in or check out or service thru the week asked us how was our holiday, pool area was nice, but the whole expreince was like mars....no atphmosphere
