"The hotel, its amenities and staff are definitely 5 star quality. The standard rooms, however, are four star and the beach itself i would rate as maybe 3 stars. The beach amenities are outstanding with fresh fruit juice bars full service restaurant and bars, a pool and beautiful manicured areas. The beach is small, lots of coral and sand, unfortunately full of sargassum although this was not the fault of the hotel. It was well appointed with lounge chairs and umbrellas. The staff were courteous, and accommodating. Overall the stay was great and very relaxing. I was upset with two things. The standard rooms, especially the bathrooms are not up to a 5 star standard. Our first room was damp and the furniture looked rough. The bathroom tiles were broken, the tv was small, a 37 inch from 2015 and the shower did not work well. I requested a room change and the room was much better although they downgraded our pool view room to a garden view. The in room amenities are excellent with a de humidifier and steamer to remove wrinkles from packed clothes. My pet peeve was the resorts suggestion to get a better more updated room i would have to upgrade to premium whivj was 800 more. i would not have minded paying but l wanted that to be my choice and then could have widened my choices at rhe start to include the hyatt, riu or other 5 star hotel. By trying to force me to pay another 800 usd during check undermined the whole experience. "

"The architecture of this resort is really gorgeous, however I expected much better services and customer service from a luxury resort. Pilates and fitness classes are advertised, but there was only a very beginner level yoga class available in the morning. Service to the pool was inconsistent - sometimes we would get service, sometimes we would need to go ourselves to the bar to order, and our requests were sometimes forgotten. I was also surprised to see the amount of extra charges - there was a whole separate menu of food at exorbitant fees, which makes you question the quality of the food that was included as part of the all-inclusive charge. There were cancellation fees of 25USD for the yoga classes - my own fancy gym in Montreal wouldn’t charge me that. Room service required a fee, and it was not otherwise possible to bring food to the room. These are things I expect at a regular hotel, but not one that advertises itself as a luxury hotel. It really undermines the luxury of it all. Aside from that, it is a stunning resort. Very calm and clean."

"My wife and I travel as a hobby... and we travel in luxury. The Rosewood Mayakoba is the most luxurious experience we have had. The spa is perhaps the best on earth, the interior mangroves and boat rides to restaurants is such a cool experience. The rooms are literally on top of the water, private pools, AMAZING service... truly an experience that I hated to end!"
