"This property was located up the hillside and was quiet and peaceful with a beautiful view of the mountains. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The location is right off the main square and close to everything in Aquas Calientes. The staff were friendly and available within minutes of messaging. They met us at the train station late at night to ensure we found the place safely. The room included breakfast on the roof terrace which was an added bonus. Good coffee and local fruits to eat. As others mentioned .. the stairs are a bit challenging but well worth it. Don’t drag a heavy suitcase here … and you will be fine."

Hotel Retama Machupicchu

Hotel Retama Machupicchu

8/10 Good
"The Retama is a no-frills hotel that offers a practical option for travelers looking for an affordable place to stay in Machu Picchu Town, formerly known as Aguas Calientes. The standard rooms are quite small, and some of the interior rooms do not have windows. However, you can upgrade to a larger room with windows overlooking the river that runs through town. The hotel offers a decent buffet breakfast. We did experience significant issues with the Wi-Fi, so that's something to keep in mind if having a reliable internet connection is important during your stay. The bathrooms are also quite small, but we appreciated that the shower had plenty of hot water, especially since Machu Picchu Town can be quite cool. The bathroom faucets, however, did not appear to have hot water. Overall, if you're looking for a basic, budget-friendly place to stay and don't need a lot of extras, The Retama isn't a bad choice."

"We visited Aguas Calientes in the winter, the windows in the room where no sealed so moisture came in all day all the stuff feel damp, activity in the little town starts early, there is music from the restaurants around the plaza, people talking, and since the windows are not sealed you can hear everything. I don’t know who is in the summer. The place is in a hill like almost everything here you have a few step to climb."
