"I cannot say enough about this beautiful, boutique hotel! The staff was amazing and very communicative. As we were traveling from Martha's Vineyard with a stop in Boston, they ensured that they stayed in touch with me as I had to guesstimate my time of arrival. They texted and said my room was ready and that I could check in early. I appreciated this so much. The fresh baked chocolate chip cookies!! What a treat every night! The common area and all the amenities went above and beyond what I was expecting. The rooms are gorgeous and well appointed. The hotel is incredibly clean and so convenient to everything in Salem! It is historic and really sets the mood for all the quaint things about Salem. Would highly recommend staying at the Merchant. I hope to be back some day. B. Anderson/Alberta CA"

"Unique stay in a very cool old house. I am a 6ft tall woman though and didn’t realize the ceiling height in our room would be approximately 5’11” so I did have to walk like a shrimp haha. We also had difficulty with the electric lock on the front door every single time we tried to get in. We felt as if maybe the battery was dying in it. Called the number on the app and left a voicemail when we were locked out for a while last night and never heard back, like at all. Not even today. Would definitely recommend a secondary way to enter the home if your lock gives issues."

"Loved my room because it was charmingly unique. Even though the look of the room was “ dated “ it was clean, comfortable and had everything you needed .The only negatives were bringing luggage up a long flight of stairs to the second floor and if you happen to have noisy neighbors. Breakfast, next door at Daniel’s was delightful. Would highly recommend it if you are looking for an inn with “ character “."
