"The room was very beautiful and clean. Staff was incredibly welcoming and kind, and helped us with our heavy luggage without hesitation. Within five minutes of our arrival, we were welcomed with fresh tea, and our room had complimentary cakes! They supply a fan in the room too, which is helpful for anyone that needs some airflow for comfort. We had breakfast in the morning and the food was delicious and fresh. "Lovely clean rooms and good staff. Rooms however are not air conditioned and far far too warm. The rooms do have a fan in them however all this does is circulate hot air. Also no medical fridges available for insulin storage."

"When I checked in, I was informed that my reservation that was of a lower class than normal (still don’t quite understand what was meant) I was then asked if I wanted a room on the ground floor and I said yes. I was then told that the room had no windows. (basically a cupboard.) I refused that room and was then designated another room at the very top of the building having to navigate corridors and the very narrow steep staircase no wider than my body. The window of the room was literally at floor level and about 2 foot high I then complained to reception that it was unacceptable And was relocated to a room in the main foyer on the first floor Constant noise all night with people past in the room Not a very nice atmosphere at the hotel shall not be rebooking that hotel again"

"Not recommended. Was advised I had been upgraded to a superior room and glad I didn’t see the original room if this were an upgrade. Needs new carpets badly the smell when you walk in is sickly! Bathroom not clean! Black mould in bathroom. Biscuits and water had been opened and not noticed by cleaner and swapped."

"This was our fourth stay at the Crescent, our first under Champneys’ ownership. As locals we are invested in the building, having followed its restoration over the years, not least with considerable financial help from the county and borough councils. We booked our stay some weeks ago through Expedia - I selected a room we had used before and paid full price. I didn’t delve for the ‘important information’ which is further down the screen. Therefore, we were astonished on arrival to find we would have to pay an additional £40 per person per night just to swim in the hotel pool. This was ‘Champneys policy and part of the spa package’ - I never asked what this included though I suspect not much judging by the individual cost of each of the different spa treatments available. I have never been charged to swim in a hotel pool before, nor had the friends staying with us who are world travellers. The manager reduced the cost to £20 each after I complained. The room was comfortable but the breakfast disappointing - flabby slices of bread for the toaster - no fresh loaves - and our friend’s poached egg was cold. To add insult to injury, our room was advertised that day at £50 less than we paid in advance. Sadly, we won’t be returning which is a shame as it was previously our go-to local choice for special occasions."
