"Mixed feelings on this guest house - it was lovely decorated and recently renovated by the owner, who was lovely and super friendly & helpful. Had offered affordable breakfast (500 yen/ person in May 2025) and plenty of shared area spaces - with ability to use glasses / cups / kettle / microwave. Unfortunately I didn’t see during booking that toilet and bathroom are shared for all guests (4-6 rooms, not sure exactly) but luckily we went to bed early and wake up late, so avoided the natural...
"Large room with private bath/shower on deck. Two-minute walk to the calm beach which was calm enough for our young daughter to play safely on the beach and water. Highly recommend this establishment and we would definitely stay here again. "
"Phenomenal, phenomenal! This was extremely comfortable, wonderful staff, lovely room with a great view of the bay. We saw the fireworks for the Black Ship Festival. The balcony onsen was extremely private and comfortable. Would highly recommend that this be your number one choice of hotel if you are in Shimoda."
"The traditional Japanese hotel is so spacious that it surprises us the minute we walked in. It has a full living area, a bedroom and a long patio that provides excellent view to the back yard. It has a private indoor hot spring tub and a private outdoor onsen. The back yard lead to hotel garden area which has all kinds of beautiful flowers and plan. Mountain is just next to the backyard. The ambience was excellent. A simple traditional Japanese breakfast was provided for free a request."
"The staff was extremely courteous and nice. The place is great for an authentic getaway to a peaceful and beautiful spot. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and the settings were perfect!"

"Room is new and comfortable, view is spectacular!"

Unfortunately I didn’t see during booking that toilet and bathroom are shared for all guests (4-6 rooms, not sure exactly) but luckily we went to bed early and wake up late, so avoided the natural queue. As first time staying in Japanese traditional room and sleeping on Tatami floor, found it quite cold and uncomfortable- also had to fight some unwelcome visitors like spiders and bugs! Also could hear everything from outside toad and neighbour rooms. If you want to stay local with authentic experience - go for this guesthouse! If you seek comfort and proper bed - probably not worth the money. "
