Since I was travelling solo by train & foot it was a nice middle ground between coast & fells/mountains to rest & eat lovely food. "Great basic rooms for walkers woth dogs. Rooms are comfortable warm and showers are excellent. The breakfasts are fabulous and a great way to fuel up for a day of walking. Great pub food during the day and evening too. Superb location where walkers can walk a number of beautiful routes direct from the front door."

"A perfect stay! Amazing comfy, cosy and massive bed which gave a perfect night sleep ahead of us climbing Scafell Pike which was really easy to get to. Super clean, loved the modern touches but also the traditional parts which remained from the barn. Breakfast was amazing and loved that it catered to vegetarian and non-dairy options without having to ask for this. We loved watching the alpacas from our bedroom. The freshly made cakes each day were such a treat and tasted beautiful. Only 10 mins...

"Irton Hall is a historic property in a quiet part of the Lake District but near to Eskdale, Wasdale and Ravenglass. They have kept the original buildings (no concrete hotel block behind) and the open lawn, across which a multitude of peacocks march around. The food in the bar was far better than normal bar food - my venison must have been stewed for hours, it was so dark, rich and tasty! Game pie was good too."

"We stayed here to climb Scafell Pike the next day. The staff were incredible friendly and helpful with great advice on the routes to take. The breakfast was delicious and exactly what we needed before the hike up the mountain. The location is absolutely stunning as well. Couldn't recommend more."
