One of the benefits of historic boutique hotels is that they have character, and an experience that you will not get from a chain. The Stanyan Park Hotel is a perfect example, from the foyer, to the photographs on the walls tracing over a century of history, to the old-world style of the rooms. The staff at the front desk were always pleasant, on the way in or on the way out. It is right across the street from Golden Gate Park and a short walk to restaurants, and a good walk to the University of San Francisco - especially if you take a detour through The Panhandle.
