This was my favourite place we stayed on our trip so far. It was so quiet and peaceful both in the hostel and the neighbourhood. It’s about a 20 minute walk to get to Nara Park and you’re likely to run into some deer on your way there as they tend to come right into town in addition to hanging in the park. There are laundry facilities and a smoking area in the back garden. Rice porridge is served each morning and there are free and paid beverages available. There was no staff on site due to the financial repercussions of the pandemic, but the autonomous luggage storage and check-in instructions were easy to follow. I will definitely be returning in the future!

Loved the ambience of our large Japanese style rooms. For a ‘hostel’, it was above what I expected. It was dead quiet at night, even the overgrown garden in the back had its charm.

Set in an amazing old house. Seems more catered towards private groups than it is for backpackers - the hostel facilities were pretty sparse so would not stay for more than one night unless I had a private room. Place was otherwise very neat and clean.

I know there was a prior notice regarding shortage of staff. However, navigating the check-in and check-off would feel a lot less confusing if there is a staff at the Reception at the usual operating hr (7 am -7 pm). So cuatomers could ask questions.

Not a comfortable hostel. Spent three nights in a bunk bed (pot style) but really small. Only one shower/ toilet inside the room (so you hear everything) Check in/ out quite slow. Cleanliness ok.

Nice, authentic and good value ryokan in Nara

This is a splendid Ryokan, authentic (all-wood structure), clean, spacious. The best I had in 3 weeks travel around the Kansai-Tokyo area. Very helpful staff when present in the Ryokan. A little bit far though from the Kintetsu-Nara station (in particular with luggages) and off restaurants. Most of it, but this is not a problem of the Ryokan itself, the issue are the other guests who don't understant what a wooden structure and thin paper panels are and act up to very late as if they were in a bunker. A continuous presence of some staff at night during high season may allow to mitigate unproprer guests behavior. Or a very clear written statement and explanation handed out when checkin-in in several of the main touristic languages asking guests to be as discrete as monks meditating (that should avoid extra costs that would anyway put on the room prices if hiring a night guard...) after 10pm. I definitely recommend it.

This was an extension to our stay, and unfortunately these last 3 nights were unbearable, as the guests staying in the rooms on the 2nd floor were very noisy when walking on the wooden floors. Furthermore, we tried to contact the hotel staff, who are NOT on the premises, but never received a response. The hostel is left unattended so if anything goes wrong there is no one to address it. The front door was left unlocked by most other guests, so the sense this is not a secure and safe place. Also, the posting says there is housekeeping, but we received no service during the 5 nights we spent there. One of the two mllaundry machines are not working, and we had to buy our own detergent even tho this was supposed to be provided. As for cleanliness, our room's drawers and closets were very dirty, with lost of dust and what appeared to be nice feces. This could be a beautiful place, however it has serious issues.

This hostel suffers a few major problems. For.one, there is no one there most of the time, so check in must be done after 4pm, regardlesa if your room is ready (like hours was). Also we had issues with the guests staying upstairs stepping too hard on the wooden floors and there was no one there to respond for it. The pictures on the app are not accurate (at least for our room), making it look much brighter and nicer. Also, it is clearly stated that towels are not provided, so we carried our own, only to find out the hostel does offer towels are a very reasonable cost. Laundry facilities are available within the premises, however laundry detergent could not be found (although it is included in the cost). Lastly the common areas need a facelift as they get messy and cluttered very fast. If you want to experience a more realistic stay at a traditional Japanese house, this could be the place. However, mindful of the fact the place is mostly unsupervised and other guests may not share your understanding of basic rules in an old wooden structure. Overall we really liked the authentic feel of an old wooden Japanese house, the tatami floors and futons, the paper window panes and the somewhat neglected but beautiful garden. This place needs a little attention and it could be a gem.

本当は朝のおかゆ をいただいたり シャワー室を使わせてたいただきたかったのですが体調が悪く 終日 部屋でゆっくり休ませていただきました。2階の個室 部屋もお手洗いが近くにあり 大変助かりました。空調 も 自動調整できてよかったです。家、そして お部屋もとても 風情があって 素敵です 。今度は是非とも 近くの銭湯 やおかゆ もリベンジしたいのでまた是非とも 泊まりに行きたいです。素敵な空間をありがとうございました。
