The Ryokan was even better than we expected. We had a private outside wooden onsen tub with our room. It was so soothing to soak in the morning and evening. The food was fantastic - we chose kaiseki each night. But the best thing was the impeccable service. Hung took good care of us all through our stay. Okasan in dining was great and funny. The front desk and shuttle drivers were so good as well. We intend to come back to this relaxing oasis
The whole experience was wonderful from the pick up to the drop off. We definitely loved the calmness & relaxing atmosphere. Everyone was attentive and welcoming. We loved the dinner and breakfast, it was definitely a highlight. The onsen was a great and helped us soak our tired
Muscles. Definitely will come back to stay again.
It was a wonderful stay in Mikasa Ryokan! Truly enjoy in-room jacuzzi experience with sunrise! All hotel crew members behave in a refined and courteous manner! Great mountain review to whole city of Nara, and very close to famous temples and museums! Shuttle and luggage keeping service is best for your local visit!
This was the single best stay I had in Japan. I cannot even put into words how amazing. It was a tradition Japanese place, public baths that were spotless and cozy, got kimonos for our stay and inside house slippers, the meals were unique and intricate. I will be coming back, thank you so much. Also the view is breathtaking.
We had a fantastic stay at the Mikasa Ryokan, which we would describe more as an experience from the moment we entered the hotel, until the moment we were dropped back at the JR Station by the hotel shuttle bus.
The staff are very attentive, the food was excellent and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
We did have a problem in one of the rooms we booked and we were immediately moved to another room within minutes.
Fantastic experience and one everyone should try if planning a stop in Nara.
Exceptional stay and great service. food, hot bath, room, everything is so nice. You don’t need to worry about your luggage as the staff will help to deliver to your room at the information center, we enjoy the stay and Nara so much.
All of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The meals and room were great. Everything was very clean and instructions were clear for bath, etc.
Amazing experience! Staff was super knowledgeable, communicative and pleasant! We made friends while staying here and felt like at home! Highly recommend!
This ryokan was an amazing experience! We were able to have as close to an onsen experience as we were going to find with the open-air bath in our room. The food was amazing! The variety & quality were top notch!
This is a very special ryokan offering in that 1) it’s just inside the park gates, 2) some of the nicest Japanese traditions are honored here, 3) you can get your own open air bath that overlooks a private garden. I have no idea why others would not give this 5 stars unless they reserved the wrong type of room. Their gift shop also has wonderful things that are easy to pack to bring back for the folks at home.
The service was great and really appreciated the transport service from the station to the property.
The only thing is the property is a bit dated and could use an uplift soon
What a lovely stay. We had great service, delicious food, and a wonderful overall experience. It was a restful getaway to the mountains with a private onsen just for us. The patio onsen had a beautiful view of a well-cared garden and was a very nice place to pass the time.
There isn't much else to do directly at the hotel unless you take a bus or taxi into Nara, but that really forced us to let go and relax.

Liked: Staff & service
Overall, this place is a great option if you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay. The surroundings are calm and serene. However, I did notice that the hotel facilities seemed a bit outdated. Although there were some updated amenities, I also noticed some black mold around the vents in the Rykon. The staff member who checked us in and served our private dining was exceptional.
We came as a part of bigger trip to Japan for one night get away from the busy cities. The private Onsen was everything we wanted and needed- that part truly was 5 stars. Apart from that I have little kind words to say. The dinner that was included was not on par with the previous experiences we had with the Japanese food, the dishes were not very tasty (might just be my preference) but I felt ethically troubled by the shark fin soup. The service was stressed and too fast- we didn’t have time to finish one dish before the next 3 were presented. Thus turning them cold. We tried to convey this to the manager, but there is little English spoken here and the translator was hesitant to convey our critique. Dinner was so bad we decided to not have breakfast. The stress from dinner made all the relaxing and soaking beforehand go away and I personally felt as stressed as when I was back at work.
We slept on tatami mats and averaged about 3 hours with sore bodies and aches the following morning.
I don’t recommend this place.
