"The property is gorgeous but the staff make this hotel. Absolutely perfect service at every level, and graciously authentic. Every single interaction was a pleasure. We came because it looked beautiful but we’ll come back because of the people. We actually already came back since our first stay last week 😆 love love love it here. "

"I really love the area and hotel is gorgeous. The ala cart restaurants were great, but they only give you two for a four day stay, There’s only one option for breakfast “the buffet” and I was not able to make that work. But I’m a bit of a food snob I guess. The highlight of my stay was taking a boat tour from a private fellow by the name of Gabe. He took me and my two kids just around the corner to Los Arcos for an hour or so to snorkel, he was diving deep down and flipping over rocks and bringing up the coolest sea life for us to look at, then taking it back and placing it under the same rock. Quite the experience. He then took us down to “las Animas” the most gorgeous beach about 15 minutes south, an we ate at a restraint called Jorge’s. It was unreal! And we ate and drank right on the beach in our bare feet. Gabe told us to take all the time we needed. It was definitely our best day in Mexico and I would highly recommend tracking down Gabe, he gave us a great deal, we had the boat to ourselves, and he made the experience so amazing. "
"I wanted to take my time before writing this review. My partner and I traveled to Puerto Vallarta specifically to stay at the Xinalani Hotel Retreat—the photos looked stunning. We booked the king suite for its private pool and outdoor shower, aiming for a peaceful, private birthday celebration.
We expected some bugs, as the website warns about them, so a dragonfly in our suite wasn’t a big deal. But from check-in, we noticed a foul sewage-like smell in the room. When we brought it up, the afternoon manager dismissed our concern, blaming the ocean or possibly a dead animal—off-putting, to say the least. The odor wasn't constant, but with the open-air design, it returned often. Later, we found the smell came from the path beneath our suite.
Other issues included collapsing furniture—one piece even hit me—and a mouse in the suite on checkout day. For a place marketed as a luxury retreat, these issues were unacceptable. What frustrated us most was the management’s tendency to explain away problems instead of resolving them.
Despite amazing waitstaff and a great daytime manager on 4/18, the overall experience was disappointing. My rule is: would I go back? Sadly, no. Too many problems, not enough accountability. It’s a hard pass."
