Ichimatsu-an provides a unique experience within an old style Kyoto terrace house. It has its + and -. It is roomier than hotel accommodation and very pleasing to the eye. But it's not soundproofed, there's a bit of road noise and the windows rattle in the night. All sleeping accommodation is up some very steep stairs, so not suitable for the very young or old. In winter, upstairs is very cosy, but downstairs heating is patchy at best. Worth it for the experience, on balance.
