"The entrance and reception area were quite good, it felt as though you had arrived at a nice modern hotel. The receptionist was friendly and check in was speedy. Our room was on the first floor and first impressions of our room were good, spacious, plenty of storage, bathroom ok, tea/coffee and a large tv. However, on closer inspection there were some cleaning issues. The vent on the electric heater didn’t look as though it had been cleaned for ages- discoloured and dusty. The overall appearance of the room was a bit tired, only one bin, in the bathroom, the foot pedal to open it wouldn’t work so I had to open it by hand and it was small and fiddly. The bed was comfortable with good quality bed linen and pillows so we slept ok. Breakfast was quite good although we were kept waiting for the cooked eggs, I think the cook had forgotten to cook them! The bacon was tasty and my husband said the sausage and hash browns were good. As well as having to ask for the eggs, we also had to ask for butter, salt and pepper. The coffee wasn’t that great even though it came from a Lavasso machine and there weren’t enough sugar sachets in a little basket, I took the last 4 the rest were sweepers. The only member of staff on duty in the restaurant, was polite and friendly, he did act quickly when we requested things. We only stayed one night, so my review can only be based on that overnight stay. Our overall feeling about our stay was that it was okay but could have been so much better."

"We stayed in the hotel Saturday night, under booking name - Cable. On arrival we were given room two. The room was very dirty, marks and stains everywhere and black mould in the bathroom and main room. Due to being tired from travelling we tried to have an early night and a good sleep. There was constant and constant loud noise directly outside our room. With multiple adults and children shouting and running up and down the corridor, slamming doors and being generally loud. This included the lady who checked us in when we first arrived. Around midnight I walked outside the room due to the noise and asked the people to keep their noise down. There was around 30 people in the corridor, I am assuming there was a family party or event, in which case I am confused as to why we were given a room in between all these orher people. The next morning I complained to a man at reception and showed him time and location stamped images of the room we stayed in showing how run down and unkempt the room is. It is common knowledge that black mould is a health hazard. I requested a refund and the person on yhe desk said the manager would call me today. At the time of writing there has been no contact and I will be surprised if my concerns were even passed on. Due to the loud noise myself and my family had a really poor sleep, meaning we had to travel tired and this caused a lot of stress and hassle. "

"This was our first visit of the property under the new name and branding. The redesigned foyer and common areas are appealing and well designed, our family room was clean and comfortable and nicely put together in terms of style. The restaurant area is less successful in terms of design and we would not rate the breakfast above average. However, five stars to the entire breakfast team (open kitchen included) for their warm hospitality. "

"Our stay was for a couple of days to attend a Wedding in Winchester. St John’s Croft is ideally placed within 5 minutes easy walk of the town centre, with on site parking at the property. The property is a lovely grand farmhouse, in a very quiet raised spot, considering how close it is to everything. The property has a lovey, relaxed, arty/boho feel to it, with a warm atmosphere. Our room had a large double and single daybed, two very comfortable armchairs, coffee table, lots of side lamps and a TV. A good powerful shower in our private bathroom, with lots of hot water was most welcome. Dotty cooked us a marvellous breakfast around a large communal kitchen table by the AGA. I would more than happily stay here again. Thank you. "

"Small but perfectly formed room. Comfy if squeaky bed. Good brekkers. No tea making facilities in room but the dining room is available 24h if you need a cuppa. Next door to black boy pub - quirky and well worth an hour or two whilst sinking some beers."

"We had a lovely stay. Andrew was a great host and showed us everything we needed. The bar was humming and our dinner was fabulous. We had a great nights sleep. The renovated bathroom was excellent and had a nice big shower. Room 2 was lovely overall. Breakfast in the morning was excellent.. Overall we had a lovely overnight stay at the Cricketers Inn and would not hesitate to stay here again when in the area. "
