"Incredible place with top value. Choose the room with private outdoor hot spring. The meals are so delectable. The service is unmatched — it was raining as we drove up and a staff member rushed out to give us each an opened umbrella. The room and amenities are amazing."

"The view from the room was very nice, the room itself was very clean and quiet so I was able to have a peaceful and relaxing stay, though it would have been nice if it were a little more well lit, but overall very satisfactory. The meals provided were delicious, I was happy to be able to sample many different dishes and the service was amazing but the portion was a little too much for me, maybe half of what was provided would’ve been just perfect but nonetheless it was an amazing experience. "Staff was polite and some more helpful than others. Dinner and breakfast was great. But property seems a little old and condition was ok. Need to drive as the location is quite hard to access by walking. Nice view. "

"This is an "onsen" (hot spring) hotel. Bathing is a big part of the experience. We enjoyed our stay. The food and service were fine. While the water in the bath itself was ok, the water in the area outside the bath where you wash before getting in the bath was not hot enough. We complained and the hotel staff was very apologetic. They explained that there was an issue with their hot water heater, but the damage had already been done. It was disappointing."

"One of the best places I've stayed. Room was lovely, incredible service, amazing facilities on offer, particularly enjoyed the beautiful public and private hot springs. Would absolutely stay again. "

"It was quiet and safe, and most of all, it was nice to have a choice for dinner. I was served a Japanese course meal for dinner and I was very satisfied."

"This hotel is so far out of town that walking in to town isn’t really an option (at least a hour walk) and the buses only run every half hour.
As for the room itself, when you enter the bottom of the stairwell, you can turn on the light at the bottom but not the top. So you have to walk up into pitch black and use a flashlight to find the light switch at the top. The room barely cooled off, even with us blasting the AC units.
Other than that, the rooms were nice and the onsen had a very pretty...

"Excellent ryokan to stay and enjoy private onsen bath. The ryokan is super clean, neat and tidy. Dinner and breakfast meals were excellent and delicious. Staffs are super friendly. Onsen bath facilities are excellent, clean and very quiet. We had a great overnight stay here and will be back for sure in our next trip to Beppu. Highly recommended."

"Service staff was excellent. Had stayed in Nijikan and Hoshi Kan on separate nights. Staff had helped to transfer my bags and brought over my beverage that I had left in the fridge to the new room. Thoughtful gesture that had impressed me."
"The staff was extraordinarily helpful. There is a onsen that is great just across the road and they give you a discount ticket for it. The rooms were very stylishly decorated and comfortable and large. They have a continental type breakfast sandwich, but we’re not really into breakfast much so we only ate it once. They do have coffee available. The coffee is quite good. We went to the music café just down the street for an interesting and good meal but most restaurant options require a car or a hike. The hotel is just off the expressway so very convenient if you have a car."
"Very new hotel with 14 rooms, loved the simplistic yet unique decor by world renowned architect Kengo Kuma. Hotel exterior blended in very well with the local natural environments. Check-in with the tablet quick and easy, rooms had large balcony/window with double-layered curtains offering ample sunlight during daytime while maintaining darkness for a good night's sleep. Our room was well equipped with large beds, a comfortable dining/sofa area, small cooking area with fridge & cooking hob, clothes washer/dryer, double bathroom sink, etc. overall everything you would need for a long stay including ample car parking in front of the hotel. Looked exactly like the pictures on the hotel website."
"The hotel was great and had your own parking, but not walking distance from anything; however very close driving distance to tourist spots. Location of the hotel is right next to the expressway entrance to either go to Oita or Yufuin, your like in the middle. Overall excellent hotel!! "
"Nice ryokan hotel located at the hillside with great view. A simply cosy dinner was served in room and the breakfast buffet was great in main dining area.
The condition is run down but most part of the premise is well maintained. Some parts e.g. kids playroom and the indoor onsen are not clean. "
