"So much wrong here.
We were informed by Hotels.com that we had to contact the Crown rooms at least 24 hours prior to arrival for check in instructions. We did so via hotels.com messaging service twice - but did not receive a response. We also then tried the crown rooms directly (again no response) and tried to call the crown rooms (the phone number on their website is discontinued).
There was also no way of contacting anyone on hotels.com for an update (VERY POOR!)
Upon arrival - we had to go into the bar to check in (no issue). However, a young man who was on his own in the pub had to leave the customers who had just walked in unattended to show us to our room.
According to their website the pub has just been renovated - and clearly all the rubbish had been left in full view of the room guests at the bottom of the stairs at the back of the pub - so not a great first impression.
Not really any dialogue about anything from him. Just a key and a room.
There was a towel on the floor next to the bed (when I picked it up - it was clearly there to hide a stain. There was a free standing fan in the room which was really disgusting - the TV (too big and too low - bit of a H&S issue) was covered in dust, as were the pictures and the sides within the room)
The pillows had no protectors on them and only one cover, so although clean,, it will only be a matter of weeks before those too are disgusting.
The bathroom - although the floor was very slippery was at least clean.
