"The property was nice, and the staff was friendly, I was however charged $41.00 for a breakfast that was supposed to be covered by a credit with the hotel and did not find out I was charged for it until it showed up on my bank statement"

"I had an absolutely terrible experience at The New Yorker Hotel. After my stay, I was hit with a $500 "smoking fee" despite the fact that I do not smoke and did not smoke in the room. This is a blatant cash grab and a complete lack of integrity on the hotel's part. When I tried to resolve this on-site, the lack of professionalism was staggering. I requested to speak with a manager and was simply handed a business card. I have reached out multiple times to the contact provided, but they have completely ignored my messages. I also asked for a manual check (instead of automated sensor) to check for smoke and was denied. Attempting to dispute the charge has been a nightmare because of their refusal to communicate. Warning to future travelers: Stay elsewhere. There are plenty of hotels in New York that won't slap you with fraudulent fees and then hide behind a non-responsive management team. This was a dishonest and stressful experience from start to finish."

"Lively but not noisy or overcrowded. Room was tiny but cozy. Best was the alcove with the bed by the floor to ceiling window with remotely operated shades with a view. My one improvement would be the closet. People on the short side can’t reach the rods to hang my clothes."

"We were excited to stay here, but this hotel is just okay. My family has eaten downstairs at Friedman's many times because it is a safe and delicious gluten free restaurant, and we thought it would be fun to stay at the hotel with its old-timey charm. The rooms were typically small, which was not a problem or a surprise. What surprised us was that they were not well appointed. There was no furniture in the room other than two beds and one nightstand. Zero place to put down your things other than the floor. This made for an awkward/uncomfortable stay with things on the bed or piled on our suitcases. Bathroom was extremely tiny as well, though seemed to have been somewhat recently renovated. For the money, I will look elsewhere next time."
