  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

It’s the great place to stop if you’re just passing through. I’m from Missouri and stop here for the night when I travel to the East Coast. The price is right. The rooms are clean and the people are friendly.

Decent stay.

The staff was great! Very friendly and nice. The room was a little different. No blankets and you had to keep the AC low just to keep the smell of the room down.

The entire place, exterior, office and my room reeked of cigarette smoke. Disgusting. On the plus side, the room was clean and the front desk staff were very polite and friendly.

I had to go to DG for cleaning supplies to clean the shower and had to fabreeze the room because of cigarette odor. Other than that the beds were comfortable.

It was the cheapest place...that was closest to where we had to be. But wouldn't recommend taking kids there. Or pets. The bed was comfortable n the air-conditioning n cable worked. So it did it's purpose. But they need to teach the maids to actually clean.

We liked the location and having a minifridge and microwave, but we had bugs in our room and there was a leak in the toilet that made the bathroom floor wet. The pillows were flat.

This room had been rented by smokers and so am allergic to smoke. There were burn marks in the bathroom and cigarette burns on the bedspreads. I also saw a roach this morning when we were packing to leave. The walls need to be repainted as there are stains everywhere. They had heavy plastic on the mattresses which I appreciated so as not to get bed bugs.However, even though they had a mattress pad on top of the plastic, we were both drenched in sweat upon awaking due to the plastic. All in all, it was bad

The good and bad!!

Bad part: Wooden floors were dirty, sheets stained, Bathroom horrendous, dirty, rust, paint all over the floor, found long brown hair on the shower wall. Found stains on comforter. microwave did not work. Curtains were missing hooks to hold them up. Terrible smelling soap to wash with. Sink was clogged. Found spiders behind bed!! Could have used more pillows. Good part: Very hot water, fridge and freezer worked, Very accommodating giving me fresh sheets and more towels. Cold air-conditioning. Had internet access. TV worked. Watched the Browns game!! We lost. And it was a cheap rate. But now I know why!!
