"Very nice hotel although aspects are due for update. Comfortable rooms and dining space. Excellent breakfast choice and quality. Staff are very distant however - no smiles, no pleasantries and they generally don’t seem to like to be bothered. All staff appear like this. "

"Really lovely Hotel and Pub. Very accommodating to guests staying at the Hotel, to find them a table for dinner or just a couple of drinks. Dog friendly on non-carpet areas, which is the majority of the pub. All staff really Friendly. The bed was a little hard, but I think that comes down to personal preference. Would recommend and we would stay again!"

"A lovely, characterful old building on the edge of the Lake District, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, helping us feel right at home. It is very convenient as a base, being on the road between Penrith and Pooley Bridge with a direct bus route between the two, going as far as Windermere, and for drivers it is a good place to access most parts of the Lake District, being not far from the M6 and A66, making access to Carlisle and the Scottish borders equally easy. The room was very clean...

"Great staff and a very warm, friendly and efficient check-in. A great touch, much appreciated, was a table was booked for me incase I wanted to dine in. My room was in a small annex to the Blacksmith Arms. It is generously termed by estate agents as cosy. The bathroom was far larger and included a bath and separate shower. All was clean with a generous application of bleach. The room was very quiet except for the occasional screech of either pheasant or peacock. I couldn't make my mind up which....

"The pleasant, friendly staff were particularly memorable for their friendly, helpful 'can do' attitude. The room(s) we were given were more than adequate for our needs and included a bedroom and a sitting room together with two TV's and the usual shower room. It was quirky, old and perhaps in need of a little TLC, but laid back and lovely "
