Had a lovely stay in York. Had attic room in the old hotel which was nicely presented. No aircon but had a fan. Good sized room and ensuite but no hooks or anywhere to hang towels/clothes. And no room for cosmetics. Good breakfasts. Good location.

The Fat Badger is ideally located close to the Minster just outside the busy area of the city. Good points: Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast and restaurant. Nice beer garden to the rear. Rooms cleaned every day and tea and coffee etc...replenished. Bad points: The room we had was very small, not like those shown in adverts. The room was in need of a refresh, pealing paint, lack of cupboard space and drawers. However the worst part of the stay was being woken all through the night by the sound of revellers emptying out from the pubs and from 4:30 am every morning the dustbins and glass bins being emptied into dust carts. Investing in some double glazing for the windows would of made this less of an issue.

The secret garden is a great addition, but can get very busy . If staying over get a room on a lower floor , we were on the top floor , 6 flights of creaky stairs . Breakfast was good .

The room was fine, and the breakfast good. It's well situated in the centre of the old city. The only issue for a 79 year old was our room was three floors up with no lift. The staff were very helpful carrying luggage for us.

Room was very nicely decorated and coffee tray was well stocked. There was a great big bulge in the ceiling though and looked as though it was ready to leak a lot of water, in fact at breakfast, some guests were talking to staff about a leak in their room and how water was dripping down the wall. The last morning, we were glad to leave as it was worrying. The room was lovely and clean when we returned each day. Staff were mostly young people who did well service wise. Breakfast was really nice but coffee was like dishwater, they need to add more coffee into the pot and spoiled the breakfast somewhat but it didn't feel comfortable to mention it to staff as it was a bit stiff and starchy in that area. We looked out over the garden which was very noisy and bright at night as they had string lights up. Second night, we shut the window and pulled down the blinds to blank it all out but to be expected as it's a popular pub - always busy which is a good sign. All in all, good place to stay - I think that this is a fair review.

We were in the attic room. People with any mobility problems would not be able to access this room. Stairs were very steep. Staff were very helpful with luggage etc but access cannot be improved. Food was very good as was the service. Location is excellent.
