Old fashioned Charm and Hospitality.
This hotel has seen better days.. to be fair it's probably buzzing in the ski season, the whole town would come alive! It was very quiet in mid summer. The owner/manager couple are just delightful but it's a lot of work to keep this old place in shape! Full marks for effort!

Great Experience
Blast from the past, the owners are social and make your stay very relaxed. This place is an original onsen from the 40s I believe and you can definitely tell its old, but the owners do a great job of making it feel rustic and authentic. Breakfast was included and very good, even for an American who needed some of it to be explained to them. Zao is amazing and my trip wouldn't have been complete if I would have stayed in a more modern place. Perfect walking distance to the slopes and the owner even had discount tickets and good recommendations from food to skiing, to sites. Can't say enough about how nice they were, I took many pictures inside the hotel. Also useful is they have onsite parking and it made things very convenient as parking in Japan can be fun without snow...

温泉の中心街に位置、スキー場やレストラン町営温泉、コンビニなど近く便利であった。オーナーや女将さんがとても気さくで朝食も都合していただきました。　朝食はあらかじめ頼んだほうが良い、近くのレストランは昼と夜のみ営業。スキーは大寒波のおかげでパウダースノー、猛吹雪とホワイトアウトを経験したがとても楽しめた。オーナーのステレオ設備は半端なく、豊かな音量のザカーペンターズバックミュージックなどなつかしの プレイをたのしむことができた。
