"The staff was more than accommodating. They communicated with us before our arrival and booked one of the best tour guides we have ever had: Momo! They were able to book a last minute hammam for us as well and made a dinner reservation on our arrival. Very attentive and quiet location."
"If I could, I would give more than 5 stars for this breathtaking riad in the old city Fes. If you are a frequent traveler, you probably have have experienced the catfish aspect of a property posting it's unrealistically beautiful pictures on these platforms. Riad Mazar Fes is the exception. Pictures don't do justice to how beautiful this exceptionally build and meticulously maintained riad. And that is not the best thing about it. For starters, it's people tops the charts.
Owner of the place Mr. Khaled treated us like family. He gave us time and attention, giving us a background of the place he build from ruins to a palace like riad. Being an arts and antiquities collector shows in his attention to detail here. He selected a wonderful staff too. Omar at the front desk couldn't be any nicer. He was willing to go above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable.
Having stayed in a riad before, I was afraid that our room would be another old and uncomfortable space. It was surprisingly very modern and had all the comforts of a 5 star hotel. Daily clean towels and sheets, clean bathroom, fridge, TV, A/C, hairdryer, you name it, it has it. I can name a few top name hotel chains that are not as clean and comfortable as the room we had.
Location is a walking distance to all attractions in Fes including the market, tanneries and historic sites, at thhe same time avoiding the noise and insccesiblity. You can park your car right in front of the property. I highly recommend it."
"The Riad is absolutely gorgeous, and would have easily earned 5 stars if not for the rude and scammy hotel manager who ruined the experience. It’s a mystery how that man works in the hospitality industry.
We had 2 rooms as there were 3 of us. When 2 of us came up for breakfast, he rudely said that they have cooked food for 3 people so will bring all 3 people’s food together. When we said the third person is asleep, he refused to agree to serve them separately when they came up (within the breakfast window), “because we have cooked 3 people’s food for you”.
When the food arrived, the ONLY cooked item was a couple of fried eggs. The rest of it was just fruits, bread etc. that had been hastily thrown together - picture included. Just a ruined breakfast experience for nothing.
While leaving, we asked the same guy where we should walk to get a cab. He said that that’s not possible, and the only way to get a cab is to book one through him for MAD 250. He argued multiple times that we should have done that in advance. He then claimed that a taxi we flag down near the medina “is not allowed to go to the airport”.
Eventually sick of him, we walked out, and 5 minutes reached the street and instantly flagged a taxi to the airport for 100 MAD.
Apart from the rude, scammy, lying manager, the riad is wonderful. Well located, genuinely beautiful inside, helpful staff (apart from the one), comfortable beds and good WiFi."
"We loved the beauty of the Riad courtyard and our room. We also loved the rooftop terrace of the Riad. We had one of our dinners up on the rooftop and we spent quite a bit of time enjoying the view of the medina and city from there.
Breakfast was so-so and definitely not even close to one of the best we had compared to most of the other places we stayed in Morocco. The dinners were also not very good compared to other guest houses and restaurants we ate at in Morocco so we wouldn't recommend having your dinner there during your stay. We were especially disappointed with the dinner service one evening when the waiter spent a good 20 minutes chatting with a single woman dining alone instead of bringing us the salt and pepper we asked for.
Lastly, we would highly recommend parking your car in the secure parking area instead of the street parking located just inside the medina. Finding and getting to the street parking was an absolute nightmare and complete waste of time. Then the scammers on the street demanded payment for parking there after we were told by the Riad it was free to park on the street. The staff from the Riad was no help when it came to dealing with the parking scammer. Do yourself a favour and just pay a bit more to park in the secured parking area. At least you won't have to deal with all the scammers in the medina and you will probably end of having a more relaxing experience."
