On July 1, 1997, the lease ended, the British governor and British Royal Navy left their posts and Hong Kong became a Special Administrative Region of China in a giant celebration, with the Convention Centre at its heart.

Lan Kwai Fong owes its legendary social scene to its location in the Central business district. When the working day draws to a close, the employees of the nearby multinationals, legal chambers, finance companies and government departments head for the bars to celebrate.
