Things to do in Kukuihaele

Located on the North West coast of Hawaii’s Big Island, Mauna Kea Beach is a strong contender for the title of the island’s best beach. It is attached to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, one of Hawaii’s most famous resorts that has been consistently popular ever since it opened in 1965.

Hapuna Beach State Park is home to the largest white sand beach on Hawaii Island, the perfect destination for swimming, snorkelling or soaking up the sun’s rays. Next to the beach, you’ll find the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, with its sister hotel, the famous Mauna Kea Beach Hotel nearby. The park itself covers 25 hectares on the north-west coast, and offers excellent hiking trails to help you explore the surroundings.

Climb to Waipi'o Valley Lookout to get a whole new perspective on the natural spectacle of Waipi'o Valley below. This picturesque area is known locally as “The Valley of the Kings” and is celebrated for its important role in Haiwaiian royal history. However, the exquisite tropical landscape itself is every bit as captivating as the stories that surround it and this lookout point gives you a chance to see it as its best.

Right at the very end of Akoni Pule Highway, you’ll be treated to one of the best views in the whole of Hawaii Island. The Pololū Valley Overlook sits above the deep valley, carved into the side of the Mauna Loa Mountain. The journey to the overlook is in itself a spectacular experience. As you drive along the highway, the volcanic mountain rises up on one side, whilst the blue expanse of the Pacific Ocean stretches out to the other.
