"I would stay at the Washington Inn again. The location is superb, a block or two from the heart of North Beach, but it was completely quiet at night. The price was very good for SF. However, you should know that the hotel is pretty rough around the edges. Shower handle a bit funky, carpet very worn in spots, aging tiles, mattress hardly in its first youth (but we slept well). If you want the bathroom in your room as opposed to across the hall, make sure to reserve ensuite."
