Excellent hostel. Nice and helpful staff. Though 15 minutes walk to train station, the route is clear and direct. Good proximity to eateries of variety. Mosquito control may need pay attention at common room and bedroom. However, bathroom and toilets are clean and well equipped. The clothes drying area at roof top will be better with some lighting for use at night.
I almost never write negative reviews but I had to. The location is the only good thing about this place, and even then, be ready for the noise. The rooms are so badly insulated acoustically that it'll feel like you're outside.
The dormitory seem to have been built with whatever material was at disposal. The mattress was so thin, it would have been the same as sleeping on the board directly.
I was on the bed at the top: the ladder is dangerous, it's very short, it is not centered to your bed. It was 1 AM, I had fallen asleep but now needed urgently to go to the toilet. Being half awake and the ladder being so poorly made, I thought I'd reached the last step, only to realise it wasn't the case. I fell a good meter and then banged my head against the metal ladder on the other side.
Luckily that was my last night there (out of 2) but if it'd not been the case I would've checked out anyway. Thanks for the fright and fear of having a commotion + the bruises. This is so dangerous, I'm still shocked to this day.
Overall hygiene is questionable, hair brushes left in a box, used toothpaste for guests.
If you really are low on budget, and have no other choice for 1 night go ahead, otherwise don't risk it!
Really nice staff, cool building and good location, however the facilities could use some maintenance/upgrade. Also, and I'm not sure if this has to do with Tainan or this place in particular, but it was by far the worst when it came to mosquitos compared to the other five or so cities in Tainan where I've stayed at similar cost hostels.
