Kings Beach

Sunshine Coast

A coastal cityscape with colorful buildings, a beach, and a clear blue sky.
A coastal landscape with a prominent mountain peak, beach, and residential buildings.
A beach with people and sand toys.
A sidewalk with people walking, including a stroller.
A wooden boardwalk by the ocean with people walking.

With a friendly atmosphere, excellent surf and child-friendly entertainment, this beautiful beach is the perfect family getaway.

Kings Beach is a scenic family-friendly beach in the heart of Caloundra. As you swim in the calm waters, look back on the beach to see the Glass House Mountains rising up in the distance. Kings Beach is widely known to have the best surfing conditions in Caloundra and also has lifeguards on patrol year-round.

Take the family to the fun-filled local water playground and fountain, which spurts jets of water at surprise intervals. Walk along the shorefront and explore the fascinating rock pools. You can also go fishing, sailing, scuba diving, windsurfing or Jet Skiing off the coast. Slow the pace and simply laze on the golden sands and listen to the waves.

Have a barbecue or picnic in the grassy park area from where you will have panoramic ocean views. Dine from an outdoor terrace at one of the restaurants along the waterfront. Take a dip in the oceanfront saltwater Kings Beach Pool and explore the heritage-listed Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion, built in 1937.

Stroll along the Caloundra Coastal Path, a 25-kilometre (15.5-mile) scenic shoreline walk from Golden Beach in the south all the way to Point Cartwright in the north. The path passes by both the Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion and the historic Military Jetty.

Time your visit to Kings Beach with the annual Caloundra Music Festival. The festival hosts live music and entertainment, attracting thousands of visitors to Kings Beach Amphitheatre. If sport is more your preference, visit Kings Beach during Kings of the Coast. This 3.8-kilometre (2.4-mile) swimming race always draws a crowd.

Kings Beach is accessed through Ormond Terrace and is approximately an 80-minute drive from Brisbane along the Bruce Highway. With a year-round festive atmosphere, you’ll be assured plenty of fun and relaxation whenever you visit Kings Beach.
