"Great, great room upgrade - thank you, loved the view! Emails prior to arrival from hotel as expected from previous stays never received (eg. % off drinks and / or food in bars and restaurant - fyi, we ALWAYS purchased the vouchers). When I queried why no emails were sent at front desk during check-in, two different members of staff tried to explain that it was to do with data protection laws (no, made no sense then or now) and I never got a coherent, logical answer despite several attempts at re-phrasing the question. Still one of my top 5 hotels in central London :-)"
