Wingate by Wyndham Galveston Beachfront at the Seawall
4/10 Poor
"I emailed hotel twice to see if we could check in early as we were traveling with two dogs and never had a response. We arrived two hours early to inquire and was told we had to pay 35$ to check in early. An older man and his grandson came in and after I had paid this ridiculous fee he pitched a fit and the lady helping me told the young guy that was checking them in to just give him his keys....So I paid, he did not they were next door to us and unloading car while we were. We were also charged 15$ to park in their parking lot after paying a high fee for such a sub par hotel. Very noisy in room from people coming and going and NO coffee maker in room. Pool water was cloudy as well. The only thing nice was the fact that you can walk through parking lot right to a light at Seawall and walk across to an entrance to the beach. "
"Hotel was very quaint and peaceful. Loved walking to my room on the second floor and being able to see the pool & the beach. The location is away from most things, but not too far that you can’t walk/ drive to something — the staff was so kind and attentive.
Also most hotels stopped having variety in mini bars, and the snacks and beverage options were amazing and actually affordable. 10/10 and would stay again if in the area."
The Tremont House, Galveston, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"I wish there was a pool, but there is a gym, 3 dining options: fa rooftop bar, a bar/restaurant, and a cafe, and several other
great things about this space. It was built in 1887 and actually used to be a brothel in the late 1800s to my understanding.
The reason I did not give 5 stars for service was because I was struggling with my bags at the door and the bellhop was standing there on his phone not paying attention. I had to ask him if there was a button to push to open the doors. He did eventually hold the door for me, though.
This is the first time I have stayed in this hotel, although I have spent several visits on the rooftop bar or just hanging out in the lobby with my puppy, working on Art. My mom and I stayed here after returning from a 4 day cruise to Cozumel. We loved the hardwood floors, the high ceilings, the large flatscreen tv. The only small complaint I have is that we were unable to login to our streaming accounts from the TV or chromecast it from my phone. The gentleman at the front desk spent about 30 minutes trying to fix it. It worked for a little bit, but then froze up. He did put in a work order to get it fixed the next day. The cafe workers were so friendly and complimentary. Also, since I have visited the public areas so many times with my white Husky named Jasper, everyone at the hotel knows us. When we come back, the bellhop usually holds the door and says, “Welcome Back!”. "
"The room had a bad smell and the ac did not work. We had to argue to get moved to another room that also had an odor. Walk out to the street make a left and the food establishments are bad also. After we took a tour we found out this was not the area to be in. The photos of the hotel are misleading. Stay somewhere other than here!"
