Royal Canin Shanghai Visit
This is a family hotel, something best left to the locals to enjoy. It was dated, very cliche hotel. From no cutlery in the dining room, to people smoking in the restaurant - suggest a typical business traveller stay away. Further the wifi was non-existant!
So, this is one of the first reviews for the hotel but I can say this MADE my trip to Shanghai! The hotel is very new, absolutely incredible design and just luxurious. Unfortunately, it is quite far from the main city (£4 taxi to nearest Metro (Dongchuan Station) and then about 70 minutes to People’s Square in downtown Shanghai. BUT there are plans to extend the Metro this year so hopefully this will make travel easier. All the taxis are fair and are metered so don’t cheat you. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to a big shopping centre with western shops and food (KFC & Pizza Hut) and also has a Cinema too. The staff although having limited English are so happy to help and always smiling! The buffet breakfast is big (get there early tho!) and lots of nice things to do in the hotel itself. Overall, an excellent stay!
I booked the room to include breakfast but when I checked in they said it did not include breakfast. I called Hotel.com and they fixed fast. I feel they tried to get me to pay for breakfast again. Breakfast was good.
But other than that it is a good place to stay for business. Did not see anything for tourist. But I could be wrong.
The room is spacious and relatively clean.
There are no commercial area right next, but one can get to stores walking a few blocks west. Not crowded at all, and very calm.
Surrounded by green area, I thought there is a park one can easily access, but the buildings that look like outlet stores are all closed and they block the way to the park-like place.
Bus is rather scarce. It's hard to catch a taxi, but one can call taxi through the hotel staff. It cost 300 RMB from Pudong airport, but Dongchuanlu station (metro line 5) is ~42 RMB away by taxi. One can get to the the downtown Shanghai by metro from there in about 30 minutes. (Very convenient Metro!!) There are apartment houses around, but they seem quite empty.
The food in the hotel is OK, and people are very kind. However, only a few people can speak English, so prepare yourself with a translation app.
