"Stayed at Tawas Bay Beach Resort for a destination wedding weekend for one of my best friends and his husband, and the experience was frustrating from start to finish.
At check-in, I was initially told there was no reservation under my name. After providing my confirmation number, I realized I had accidentally booked the wrong night. My mistake, absolutely, but instead of helping directly, I was told to book another room online while standing in the lobby.
While waiting, I witnessed staff openly giving out the wedding couple’s room number to multiple guests, which felt incredibly unprofessional. Other wedding guests were also being turned away until 4 PM unless they paid extra for early check-in.
After being told no manager was available, a room suddenly became “available” only after I hauled my luggage into the lobby and said I’d get ready in the bathroom. I was then sent to a second-floor room with no elevator. I have asthma and a torn meniscus, and had to make multiple exhausting trips up stairs with luggage.
The room itself was poorly maintained with ceiling damage, bugs, and cobwebs. Even worse, the key card stopped working every single time I left the room, forcing repeated trips to the front desk.
Checkout was equally chaotic. Despite paying for two nights, I was told I’d need to switch rooms because of how the reservations were entered. At that point, I left.
In the end, I paid nearly $350 for one stressful night and a hotel stay that felt anything but welcoming"
