"Unfortunately not dog friendly in bar or restaurant. Music in breakfast room far too loud. No shelf in bathroom, flush on toilet not working properly, no detachable spray on shower to wash hair. Food just about average. Poor selection of beers. Staff not particularly helpful or friendly, forgot to put notice on door please service, therefore no top up of milk and tea provisions. The only good thing was the bed was comfortable and the view of the river was nice."

"Excellent room and hotel in general with pleasant staff however the food was very poor. Four star hotel but only offering poorly cooked pub food such as F&C, Scampi, Burgers, roast of the day etc.. nothing adventurous, no pasta, curries, no fresh fish although a few miles from the sea except fried cod from The North East I guess. It’s a fair walk to the next restaurant (a hotel) and we saw a Wetherspoons in Barnstaple which we didn’t fancy. We ended up on our last night of three collecting a sandwich from a garage and it was nicer than the previous nights F&C…. I hate writing a poor review as the staff were trying so hard and the hotel is excellent in all other aspects but someone at an executive level made the menu decision as apparently there used to be a bistro…..At 4* hotel prices one aspects 4* food to be available . I should have checked the web a bit closer I expect. Also be aware breakfast closes at 9.00am weekdays (9.30am weekends) and when you’re on a break you need a bit more leeway. It’s an expensive “full English” at £17 and then offered Eggs Benedict at a £3 supplement that’s ludicrous. I suppose we are classed as elderly and so expect everything we need on site and not to have to drive for meals."

"A modern bathroom in a 14th century hotel was definitely not expected. WiFi worked in the room. The staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast provided a good selection and the cooked items were really good. Sunday lunch was close to home made with plenty of different vegetables. Will definitely return!"
