"We had a fantastic stay at The Barnsdale, such a beautiful, relaxing and picturesque venue. We enjoyed use of the spa, which is beautifully done, small and intimate. Evening meal in the Brasserie was delicious with fabulous service and breakfast was just as delicious, with lots of choice and was well organised. All staff were very polite and helpful, especially the lovely lady on reception. The welcome glass of wine on arrival was such a lovely touch. Only disappointment was that the king size bed was in fact two single mattresses pushed together, also the window wouldn’t open and so the room was quite warm. All that said, the room was clean, cosy and so beautifully decorated Overall though, our stay was so beautiful, and so so relaxing! Thanks so much for having us"

"Glass in window broken and taped up, TV did not tune in so member of staff had to be called to rectify. Usual banging of neighbouring doors was an annoyance at unsociable hours. Only one occasional chair provided when two occupants. We were told that towels were complimentary from the spa when checking in with reception only to find that they were chargeable and then discovered that they were provided in the room. Sadly replacement towels for additional visits to the spa were chargeable, baring in mind the spa was not the cleanest of places with dirty coffee cups and water beakers left in in the rest areas. Spa area feels tired. Rusting beams and stained loungers. When requested help from reception staff were ignored whilst waiting and all they were concerned about were people taking there fan away. Although a 4* hotel feels more like a 3 star hotel."

"Got to the property late (as pre arranged) and managed to locate the reception person after finding the emergency number. Room was clean but a little tired looking apart from a new thick carpet. Facilities generally good but no plug sockets next to the bedside tables. I am a CPAP user so had to have the power lead running from the desk area on one side of the room to the bedside table on the other side creating a trip hazard across the floor."

"The best thing about this property is the staff and the breakfast. Also the room was large and decorated nicely. The hotel is extremely tired. Annex rooms are small, poor quality and scalding water - stayed there in 2025. This year I was in the main building in an executive double room. Water was luke warm in a morning - every morning. Curtains hanging off and don’t close properly. Take your own hairdryer as the ones they provide are poor. The property is tired and needs the basics sorting. Doubtful I’ll return for my 2027 trip"

"The staff were very helpful. The hotel is very tired and needs some changing and upgrades and the bathroom was not clean with ingrained grubbiness. At breakfast, there was a coffee machine with no facilities for decaffeinated coffee. Just sachets of decaffeinated. Otherwise breakfast was good."
