"My father and I recently returned from a stay at Sandcastles - and I would wholeheartedly recommend the resort to anyone looking for a very friendly, local, and down-to-earth stay!
As we first arrived, check-in was quite simple and staff was very friendly and swift to help us learn.
Every day&night the resort had great food options either up top at the Silver Sands restaurant, or at the bar near the pool; the Castle Blu, with good drinks and great staff at both locations!
The Itadone Variety store also came in quite handy for some emergency late night snacks, and again the fellows who ran the store were very accomodating and helpful!
I'll also mention that Sandcastles sits right next to the entrance to the ORBB- a rather nice, cute, and secure beach!
Finally I'm going to shout out a bunch of amazing people who made our trip so great (in no particular order) -
An-Mari at the front desk who was always happy to provide information/assist us with any issues we had,
Both of the amazing Marie's who were day/night shift bartenders at the Castle Blu,
Mark the chef at Castle Blu, Andrew the artist, Rasta Demus, and my man Kevin - who always kept us entertained, assisted us with anything we needed, and provided plenty of laughs & friendship,
Kerry-Ann, our fantastic waitress every time we went to the Silver Sands restaurant, who always looked well after us,
Finally, Jenine the great housekeeper, Paul the property manager, and Syd the lifeguard always made sure our stay was very clean!"
"After researching online and reading tons of reviews for many hotels, resorts, and bnb's in and around Ocho Rios, we booked a 6-night stay at Sand and Tan, and I'm so incredibly glad we did!
Breakdown:
What the other reviews got RIGHT:
This hotel is right on the beach and has all of the basics. Our room was exactly as advertised and clean. Basic housekeeping was included. Small fridge, microwave, AC that worked great, WIFI that had no issues, hair dryer, safe, and an ironing board. Nothing too fancy- just the basic amenities I believe most would expect.
Breakfast was included- and it was great! Eggs any way, bacon, sausage, waffles, and more!
The restaurant menu was more or less identical to what they have on their website- a mixture of Greek, Jamaican, and American dishes, about $20-$25 per plate. We ate there at least once a day and were very happy with the food.
The staff was fine. Most were friendly; some were busy at times, but none were rude or unwelcoming.
They do offer day passes for beach and bar access, so on days when there is a cruise ship in port, they get busy for a while, and on weekends- specifically Friday evening and all day Saturday- they are swamped with people who buy the day passes. During these times, it was harder to get service.
The beach and river were incredible. Gorgeous. And all of the rooms have a view. For us, it was worth not having super fancy all-inclusiveness to be steps from the beach!
Note: have to Uber into the city.

"Our room was okay, the doors are old fashion, but I feel safe anyway, there was always security presence.AC work, hot water was there.the office staff was friendly.and the beach and other attractions was right across the street.it was worth the price.and I enjoyed my stay.thank you guys for everything."
"Every thing about RIU was great. Clean room, food is great with lots of selection, great entertainment, beach and pools are awesome, family oriented and will be visiting again as the time was too short,"
"First and foremost I just want to say if you aren’t booking with Expedia, you need to start! My stay at Moon Palace was such a pleasure! From the cleanliness of the room/resort all the way to the staff! Everybody was extremely helpful and kind.
Huge thanks to Expedia for the complimentary room upgrade and the sweet surprise in my room! The view of the ocean from my balcony room was absolutely stunning. I would definitely recommend anybody visiting Jamaica to stay at the Moon Palace. Thank you for such a lovely experience!"
"The restaurant staff was extremely excellent especially the lady Tishaya and Shantol thank u guys so much for the hospitality and great service. And the rest of the staff was great also "
"My overall stay was very good. The breakfast was delicious, staffs were very attentive and courteous. However there was just too many mosquitoes in the rooms, no wash cloths were provided and the towels could use a softener of some kind because it was very rough on skin.
Otherwise it was a nice stay. "
